Comment:
Professor White unfortunately does not provide what should be essential at the college level, debate and diversity of opinions. He is very clear with his viewpoint and goal, to prove there is no God. Any questioning of his logic or attempt to debate is quickly shut down with a dismissive and emphatic "No, wrong". Easy A as long as you fall in line

I wish I could rate Professor White higher than just a 5, he was by far the most amazing professor I have ever had and inspired me on so many levels. If he ever teaches again, make sure to take one of his classes. I have never been as motivated for a class as I was for his.

Great professor and really makes you think outside the box. They way he teaches is a little unusual, and is hard to understand until you get used to it. He's pretty out there, and makes you question everything you believe and know. just ok at understanding people's questions and giving helpful answers. many required tutor sessions and notes.

This is Joe's last semester teaching! He is one of the best, if not the best teacher I've ever had. His lectures are off the charts funny, inspiring and relatable. The school is gonna miss him.

I would recommend this class to everyone!. I have never been so mind blown like this before! I would take this class now since he is going to retire.

As an international student I had some struggles following his lectures sometimes and I found myself losing interest because I could not understand everything. very difficult words but the tutors are there to help you. but man, JOE WHITE IS AWESOME! He is so incredibly funny and I love love love his lectures. Even though it was hard, it was fun!!

To be quite honest, you don't really need to spend too much time reading the book. Take notes on what's written on the board and his lectures, most of the quizzes and test are based off on that. If you need extra help go to the tutors and they will give you all the necessary information to pass the test. They also let you review the old quizzes.

Show up and you should get a C, if you want an A all the readings must be done and you must spend many hours at the tutor to have a shot. Funny man, enjoyed my time with him.

His lectures are funny but they dont make sense with the material. He tries to give examples rather than actually explaining. His tests are VERY hard and you need to understand the material in detail to even make sense of the questions. Not easy at all. You need an 85% to get an A and I struggled to make that. No study guides so good luck studying

Joe is a wonderful man. I was looking forward to sitting is his class every Monday and Wednesday. I'm not a philosophy major or even that well versed in it's complex world, but Joe did an excellent job guiding me through. There are pop quizzes so don't miss class. If you have any questions on the material go to his office hours and he will help you

I've taken Joe's intro to phil., although it is more of a history of philosophy rather than the practice. He's clear and concise, the problem is, young students believe the class is a simple a, to their surprise, it actually takes a degree of intellectual ability and critical thought; the only one's who criticize the class, lack such traits.

Joe White's intro to philosophy was THE MOST entertaining lecture hall class I've ever taken and possibly the best overall class at SBCC. His hilarious, thought-provoking lectures will make you WANT to attend every class even though the course is ridiculously easy. He's an animated, passionate professor and I personally admire the way he teaches.

I love his lecture style, however I was really expecting a more organized/clear class given the appraisal I've heard. The pop quizzes and tests amaze me in their intent to confuse, and also on what material they source. Even something referenced for one second during a lecture can be used on a test. Still a good class, but very poor organization.

Joe was a great speaker; however, his explanations during lecture were pretty confusing for me to understand. We were required to do readings throughout the semester and sometimes he'd tell us and other times, he wouldn't. The pop quizzes weren't horrible, just 10 questions and usually every other class. He doesn't follow the syllabus!

Thought this was going to be a semi easy class. I was confused the entire semester.. There are better options than this class. Hilarious teacher but he words his questions on the test so that it tricks you..

Great teacher and class. Syllabus is now followed so hard to track your grade but you get credit for everything. Pop quizzes, 2 midterms, 1 final, 90 pages of notes, go to the tutors 4 times.. that it. Very easy class. If you show up(you get points for it!) you will pass.

Don't get me wrong it was an interesting and fun class to attend as he speaks about fun and relative social problems, etc... But I am in that class for a grade and he gets off topic a lot and does not always relate back to the readings. Dont take this class there are better options.

LOVE him, would easily take his class again if I had the chance. Not only is he hilarious but he is such an amazing professor who really knows how to teach a class and interact with the students. Never a dull moment. He really makes you think outside the box and question your own beliefs without forcing his opinions on you.

Easiest tests I did all semester. Around half truefalse, half multiple choice. You only need to learn the basics of the concepts since questions rarely go into depth. Make sure to get the definitions of words down and you'll do good. Also one of the most interesting lecturers there are, jokes both in class and on exams (with multiple choice).

Easily the best professor I've had at SBCC. Joe's hilarious & his humor relates to students. His class really challenges you to think how you think. He doesn't choke his personal beliefs down your throat like most Phil profs do but instead opens on many beliefs and their ideas. Must attend class, mandatory notes, lots of pop q's, great professor!
