Comment:

Even though the other comments here seem to be positive, I can honestly say that they still don't do her justice. Ms. Nichols is truly one of the most grounded, thoughtful, interesting, entertaining, and compassionate people I've ever known. She clearly makes it her goal to inspire students and help them find passion in English. She excels at this goal effortlessly. Not only my favorite professor, but far and away my favorite PERSON at Vassar. A phenomenal role model.

Nichols is an excellent teacher for comp. The readings she chose were pertinent, and the writing exercises were thorough and methodical. I feel that my creative writing improved greatly, and the foundation she provided for me has helped me to successfully get through several more creative writing courses in the department.

Nichols is a wonderful teacher and it was a pleasure to be a part of her classroom. Her lack of commanding presence may bother some prospective takers but I thought it was excellent and conducive to designing a forum of student thoughts. I don't think I actually learned anything in the class but I can't say I did not greatly enjoy it.

Definitely my best prof of the semester... she is very nice and helpful and accommodating. The class was very book based, we read 6 or 7 novels/essay collections and had a bunch of readings. If you like analyzing books to the extreme and talking about it then this is the class for you. Our writing assignments were all creative writing.

A lot of people point out how nice she is and I would agree with this. The problem lay in the fact that she never spoke or really provided any helpful input to the class. The class would have functioned just the same and there would have been basically the same amount of learning if she was simply not there.

Comment:

Always chooses interesting, lesser known readings that really help stir discussion. This is the only class that has made me excited about writing a long paper!
