I loved Professor Brown! One of the best professors I've had at BU outside of my major. Not only was she one of the sweetest people, she was extremely inspirational and thought provoking and I found myself really wanting to make her proud. She was a tough grader but it made me better as a writer, no doubt.

Of all the professors I've had at BU, I found Professor Brown to be the most inspirational in both the classes I took with her. She takes an active interest in her students and did not fail to get the entire class actively involved and interested in the texts we studied in EN322 and the films in EN591. She can be a tough grader, but she's fair.

Simply the most encouraging, thought provoking professor I've met. The English department is lucky to have her, and if I had to take more seminars I would take them all with her. If you let her, she can be the kind of intellectual mentor you've always wanted.

One of the best professors ever and an amazing course. Class included both grad & undergrads but discussions were smooth and engaging. Fascinating lectures, very manageable workload and Prof. Brown was ready to help out anyone at anytime. Interesting choice of films & books, greatly recommended for all majors who like to think and talk!

Professor Brown just isn't a good professor. She's pretentious, which typically gets in the way of enjoying the films and literature of the class. Her opinion dominates her discussions and her grading. Don't expect to do well unless you have an equally overcooked sense, high-minded sense of interpretation.

Encouraging in class, harsh on essays. Wants to hear her own opinions in papers and gives lower grades if she doesn't agree with you.

Appears in class to be sweet and soft spoken and then grades harshly and sends threatening emails out of nowhere. Any professor who says in an email that she "may get nasty" is not one who inspires.

Professor Brown reinforced my adoration of ****ens. She is everything I look for in a professor: approachable, helpful, and knowledgeable. She keeps class discussions lively, and doesn't suffer gladly those students who don't do the reading. (And I state that as a compliment!)

Terrible discussion leader. Only wants to hear her own ideas; same in papers. Paper comments and advice were not helpful. Overly hard grader. Seems very nice, but that's about the only good thing I can say. Dickens is my favorite author, but this was far from my favorite class. I won't be taking another class of hers.

Prof. Brown is not a stimulating discussion leader. The class was interesting because of the knowledge my peers brought to the table. She is looking for HER ideas to be discussed- she's not as interested in hearing your own discoveries. Lots of reading, workload wasn't too bad though. She's a tough grader, but I've had worse.

This class was so unstructured and not very helpful to me at all. If you like books, do not take this class she will ruin the ending for you.Discussion was useless and her grading was unclear. If you didn't write what she liked, you got a bad grade. I read and attended class and suddenly my final grades dropped significantly. Guess they were too hi

I left this class feeling frustrated as He*l each time, and I know in my heart she might have cared for one second if she had actually taken notice of the fact that no cohesive discussion could develop from the ramblings she offered up to the class. I'm sure she's very nice, but I know I'm smarter than that class made me feel.

Intelligent professor: seems nice, but I've seen her berate students in front of the class. No personal problems with her, just don't take her if you can't take care of yourself in a literary discussion.

Clearly passionate about the subject, but lectures can be on the dry side. Grades a little on the hard side, but overall fairly. Expectations are clear and assignments are relatively interesting. Great movie selections. Great class for film majors.

here's the thing: i want to badly to hate her because she's a horrible, horrible teacher, but she's really nice, so i can't bring myself to do it. she basically has no idea what she's talking about most of the time. bad class, especially for a film kid.

As pretentious as they come. If you're willing to deal with a "my way or the high way" professor, brown's your woman. Clearly the course is designed around her favorite films, if your taste agrees with hers your fine, otherwise...good luck!
