Dr. Foght is by far one of the best MICRB profs at the U of A! So easy to understand and very helpful. Even helped me with another micrb course she wasn't even teaching. Wish she taught me through out my undergrad!

Comment:

Rare for me to get an A in a microbiology course, so this was a pleasant surprise. Julia marks fairly and accept other interpretations so it's not all 'right' or 'wrong' in her class. Midterm and final was straight forward but a lot of writing. I loved talking to her, she's enthusiastic and helpful!

Dr Foght is incredible. I did my honour's research in her lab and I could not have asked for a better prof! She is encouraging and deeply interested in her students, passionate about her research and extremely knowledgeable. She will do everything possible to help you succeed in current work and in your future career. Awesome.

Tough prof, but lots of fun. Very enthusiastic. Class is essentially mandatory because you have to copy down notes - they're not given to you. Tough exams, and she's a tough marker. Definitely know your list organisms! The lab was time-consuming, tough, and boring - definitely the worst part of the class.

She can teach well, but her exams are hard, and they did mark hard. Also,there are a lots of coursework from the lab..I personally did not enjoy her jokes, however, I enjoyed her lectures and the stuff we learned very much.

She is a really good prof and makes the notes interesting. Her tests are very difficult, and I found that she would often put a lot of emphasis on questions in the test that were not emphasized in lectures, which was frustrating. KNOW YOUR LIST ORGANISMS!! It will totally boost your grade. Lab component is difficult, avg was 50% on lab final.

Dr. Foght is extremely helpful! Ask her ANY question and she'll make sure she has an answer for you. Her lectures are very interesting, but her tests are hard! Use your time wisely, almost everyone runs out of time in her exams.

Dr.Foght is an amazing professor, I took this class for an option and I am very glad I did. She is very passionate about her subject and tries to pass it on to her students. Encourages questions and always trys to ensure everyone understands. Lightening fast, and extremely helpful email replies. Tests are fair but you need to know your stuff.

I found Dr. Foght to be an amazing prof, she was very knowledgeable about the material and kept us up to date with the latest facts not found in the text book. Her tests were hard but if you studied from her notes they weren't too bad. All her notes were written when I took this course (Fall '05) so it sucked if you missed a day!

It was an interesting class, and she was very enthusiastic about teaching the subject. However, they're very picky about marks in the lab and the exams, so know all your details. Also, the final was extremely long, no time to recheck your answers, let alone finish!

She's a good prof, nice person, and excited about the subject... however her exams are killer! Not enough time at all to finish, let alone even look it over, and to top it off they are insanely picky with marking (in lab assignments too). Yes you could say that we are all in the same boat, but its really not a fair way to assess our knowledge.

If there weren't labs in this course I wouldn't have made it through alive. I can't stand this prof. She loves what she does but if you find you can't learn from her then get out now!!! I still got a good mark but the class will make you go crazy. Make sure you write down everything she says. They don't test on big concepts but little details.

VERY interesting class. Tests were quite difficult for both lab and lecture. She did an awesome job at explaining the concepts, however. If you need micro, you definitely want Dr. Foght to teach it to you.
