Julie was my advisor ('92) and I sill remember her with fondness and admiration. I learned a great deal, she had faith in my intelligence and abilities even when nobody else did. She encouraged me to become a doctor and I did. So she's quirky and not mainstream...if boring and ordinary is what you're after go to medical school!

she's disorganized, doesn't bring the BOOKS she's TEACHING to class, and will do her best to make your life hell if she doesn't like her. I WOULD AVOID THIS WOMAN AT ALL COSTS.

She had her favorites & I felt like I was beating my head against a wall to get any attention in or out of class. Class was ok. Not horrible but not great.

I had Julie for Women and philosophy, and as someone who loves the subject,I also loved the course. Her teaching style isn't for everyone, and my non philosophy friends hated her. I found her extremely helpful when I needed flexibility in my assignments, and she really is an intelligent woman, underneath her quirky and spacey exterior.

Ok. yes she can be weird. Dont take this class if you have never taken philo before because you will not like it. But if you have, and you're willing to take the time to get below the surface, Julie is intelligent and definitely knows her stuff. This class is a lot abt what YOU take out of it.

I took one of Julie's classes in '97 and was really surprised to read that she is so disliked. Her teaching style is very different than what MHC students are used to- she appears "aloof" b/c she expects her students to interact and banter and take from the readings what they will.

I hated this class. I cannot believe Julie teaches here at MHC. She was never helpful when it came to answering questions. It almost seemed as though she didn't know the texts and thinkers well enough to provide answers to any of the student questions. I will to everything to avoid Julie again.

Julie demands intelligence from her students, and she demands that people work from a philosphical approach, which is harder for some than others (she doesn't like stupidity). I found her to always be available for questions and willing to discuss the material and writing.

i started off disliking julie because she appeared to be aloof; however, after a month's struggle to learn her approach, she quickly became one of my favorites. her teaching style is sophisitcated and intriguing.

This class was my first philosophy class and I will never take another philosophy class again because I found this class to be extremely boring. Julie was very disorganized. She had a hard time sticking to the subject and easily went off the subject.

By far the worst class I've taken at MHC. Only about half the class shows up and I can't blame them. It's horrible, just horrible.

This was one of the worst classes I've taken at Mt. Holyoke. She is a lazy teacher who doesn't even bring her book to class. She does not get discussion going at all and people just don't show up to class because it's worthless. Very unorganized as well

it IS rather unheard of to get anything but a B in her class (higher OR lower) and she can be a little flaky (once she almost hit me with her car), but she is so intelligent. she treats students as her intellectual equals...and she's hot!

I found Julie's class to be incredibly challenging yet fun. Julie was extremely accessible and a fascinating person to speak with. Her papers were not easy, and she is a fair grader (she doesn't just give out easy A's) I learned a lot in this class.

Her grading seemed random, she would write these great comments about how strong your argument was, and she'd still give you a B. YOu go talk to her about it, and she gives no helpful advice on how to raise your grade!
