Professor Floyd is an extremely knowledgeable philosopher. She has great depth with Wittgenstein and is comfortable with epistemological, metaphysical, and existential theories. I enjoy going to her office hours, and I look forward to class because she brings interesting material for discussion. Would recommend taking any of her courses

Comment:
Prof Floyd is absolutely fantastic one-on-one, & really knows what she's talking about. However, I personally found her lecture structure a bit too theoretical, & she doesn't really show you how to apply that theory to problems you will be tested on. It also might be tough if you're not a CS or math person. I did get a lot out of the class, though!

Juliet Floyd is an amazingly brilliant woman. There is no taking this away from her. I took her course as an undergrad and I had no idea what was going on. She made no effort at all to make the course palatable for those who were not striving towards a PhD in philosophy. Ultimately she is best to avoid unless you are a grad student.

Professor Floyd really wants every one of her students to understand the materials covered in class. This symbolic logic class might be hard to some but she explains things very clearly. She makes the class more like a seminar in which everyone is expressing their thoughts. I definitely recommend her class if you want an easy A and learn some logic

Professor Floyd is very knowledgeable in the subject, but isn't always the best at explaining it. Regardless, this is a very interesting class that you won't regret taking, even if you have absolutely no interest in philosophy, like me. Great elective.

Really easy class. She grades on a B- curve and drops the lowest two components of your grade. Direct problem sets. The two midterms were kind of hard, but the final was wicked easy. You can just sign into class and you're counted as being there. KNOW THE BOOK FOR EXAMS.

I fell in love with analytic philosophy and immediately, although I did not have the prerequisites, Professor Floyd was more than helpful, and always understanding of my struggles. She invites students to get involved, and her passion for the subject is inspiring. Can't wait to take her logic class next spring!

Comment:
Professor Floyd's analytic philosophy seminar clarified material I previously struggled to understand. As other commenters have mentioned, her enthusiasm brings the material to life. She did an excellent job situating each philosopher and argument within a larger context, which I found crucial to understanding analytic philosophy.

Comment:
Professor Floyd is a wonderful teacher of Wittgenstein. This material is notoriously difficult to teach, and her lectures clarify the text through example and by distinguishing it from other concepts students are familiar with. Importantly, Floyd makes Wittgenstein accessible without dumbing it down. I highly recommend Floyd's Wittgenstein seminar.

Professor Floyd's enthusiasm for logic makes difficult material interesting and accessible. I took two logic courses previously, and her instruction was much more clear and engaging then either of those. She is persistent in making sure every student understands the material, and makes every effort to help, including by e-mail and in office hours.

Comment:
I had Prof Floyd for a combination undergrad/grad course: Wittgenstein. The class is very abstract, and the students were timid to speak their thoughts. Prof Floyd always took the sensible interpretation of the students' comments so as give credit to the students' intelligence and encourage them further. She was excited about the subject as well.

I found her to be A very good professor, but the subjects she teaches don't come easily to most people. If yoU read the text book and go to lecture you should do fine. Homework is challenging but if you go to office hours she is more than happy to help you.

The material is somewhat difficult and tests are difficult too. The text book will help explain concepts better than lectures or TFs. Basically if you get As on W assignments and Bs or B+s on exams and show up to lecture/discussion you will probably get an A in this class because she gives a generous curve.

Pretty tough course, pay attention because everything builds on the topic before. Attend class and don't do HW the night before! She is a little confusing during lecture, but if you ask for help, she'll clarify

Comment:
Decent professor - lectures are not extremely clear, especially when she goes off on tangents, but perfectly manageable if you pay attention and read from the textbook. Awesome curving/grading policies where the lowest two sections are dropped. Very helpful during office hours and good TAs as well. Definitely not as bad as people seem to think
