Comment:
This was an awful course, I taught myself everything and learned nothing from the professor. She focuses too much on the design element of iOS when the intro course should be focusing heavily on the coding portion. The first day, she told us to teach ourselves swift.. this is a intro level course, she should be teaching us the coding language!!

Rush immediately comes off as a teacher who doesn't enjoy her job. She's short tempered and poor at explaining. She ignores questions from students. Youll likely learn more from googling tutorials than from her. No one in our class was above a 90% and the final was on things we couldn't even test to confirm if they worked. an awful experience.

One of the worst classes I have taken by far during my CS major at NIU. She expects too much from her students, but she'll hardly teach any of the topics. This is supposed to be a intro level course and it is NOT. The advance iOS course was doing the same assignment that the intro level course was doing. Please avoid this class with her!

Lectures are rushed through and she will get angry if you ask her questions. Assignments are graded very harshly, many times points are taken off for mistakes SHE made in the directions. Sets her students up to fail. How is she still employed?

Comment:
Prof. Rush is a good professor. Not much homework and mostly in class group assignments. The midterm is decent, the final is decent. Nothing too difficult if you study. No programming in this class. You'll have 3 personal assignments and 3 group assignments. She gives a reasonable amount of time to complete the assignments. Nothing too strenuous.

Biased, unfair grading; hard to get any clear answers out of her. Exams and assignments are unclear/highly subjective, and many times requires you to finish them just the way she likes it. Truly an awful and demoralizing experience at NIU.

Comment:
For a class about Software Engineering, she spends far too much time on UI/UX. Software concepts were barely touched on until the last few weeks of the semester. Assignments are unclear and grades aren't even assigned until after the last one is turned in. Tests are too long and end up with major curves to counter the low class averages. Avoid.

Comment:
She doesn't know anything about programming and focuses Software Engineering classes more on UI/UX which doesn't make sense at all. Ask something technical from her and she gets all confused. Wants her assignment to be done exactly how she said or else won't give marks. Course is very easy but makes it tough unnecessarily.

She knows her stuff and is very enthusiastic, but assignments are unclear. You won't know exactly what she want's until after it's due, even with asking questions. When I went to her office to ask some questions regarding the final assignment, she didn't seem to understand my questions. The answers she gave had nothing to do with what was asked.

I've only had her for 467 and she is probably the most knowledgeable teacher for the subject. Her tests were far too long for most students but she curved to compensate. This is a very useful class and an Important subject for CS and it was nice learning from a real expert. She does expect a lot of time, the final project took around 56 hours.

She is very unclear what to study for the test. She gives you a review sheet that is mostly blank and just has the time and date of the test then talks about it for 5 minutes. Also the toughest test grader that I have ever had. More then half the people failed the midterm. Avoid if possible.

Comment:
Her lectures are somewhat interesting and really not boring. But, her grading is very unfair on both tests and assignments. Takes off points for things she never talked about in class or in the book. She is very unclear when it comes to the assignments and group project. If ask a question she can be very condescending and inconsistent with answer

Exams were wierd. To study for them, study the material she emphasized the least. That will comprise about 50% of the exam. I remember we spent 10 minutes on cronjob the last week and there was a 25 point section about it on the exam (!)

I love Kai! She's sweet and funny and VERY thorough on the material (sometimes too much so, but that's better than skimming). She goes over assignments in class and the tests and quizzes were a breeze if you studied. Would definitely take her again.
