There are about 1-2 readings due before class--some with write-ups. Be concise with your writing and meet with Vijay to understand what he looks for. Understand what the readings and cases are saying and pay attention in lectures--be sure to contribute as it counts for your class grade. Vijay cares about his students, so care about his class.

Vijay says he cares about his students, but really only applies if he likes you. In an effort to get participation points you will say something, but he will embarrass you if you are wrong. His grading should have a question mark, because it is not clear. Very subjective. Hard to listen to because hes always trying to make himself look better.

Vijay is an inspiration. I had the honor to be in his special summer class (3 compressed weeks of classes) and then to spend the summer traveling in Asia as part of the Huntsman study abroad program. A lot to learn from him and his real life examples. Sadly, a lot of students get frustrated because they cannot think out of the box and blame Vijay.

If you don't understand something, ask! He's happy to meet with students but his material can be difficult initially. If you want your papers to pass have someone else proofread them to perfection. He's a editor for an operations journal and he takes writing very seriously.

Went to class daily, did papers and test but TA's grade papers and They sometimes see different than he does. Not clear on what is going on half the time. Reading are forever long. He's a nice guy for the most part but not very good and explaining what he is teaching.

I took the class the first semester that they changed it to a 2 credit class. It was only hard because of the amount of reading that is required. Vijay is very knowledgeable about what he teaches and he is funny and keeps things lively. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't go you won't know what is going on.

No real world experience, everything he teaches is theory. He will spend half the semester trying to get you to go on the foreign aid trips he is in charge of. His resume is purely academic and not what an Operations professor should be. Class is heavy in statistics, ignores the modern tools to do the job. Would not take a class from him again.

Graded on classroom participation, but impossible to know how well you're doing on that until the end and then no one did as well as they think they should have. Expectations not set clearly for any classwork. Grading was way too subjective!

One of the most frustrating professors I have ever had at the uni. His tests are tedious and abstract. I feel like you either understood the material or you didn't. It seemed like there was no way to study for the tests.

Dr. Kannan is a very good lecturer. His assignments, tests, and papers are busted. You will not understand what he wants. He is unable to clearly instruct students on what he expectes from them in written assignments. Avoid this professor. He also embarrasses students in class.
