Dr. Burke has taught me the most discipline out of all my professors I've had. She is not "discouraging" she motivates students to take pride in their work but is not afraid to give a 0. Her grading criteria is clear and strict. She has graduate school level expectations,(easier material tho). Very accessible out of class and email

She is tough, I've stressed in her class. If you are the type of person to work at a slow pace this class is not a good choice. But she did teach me how to be more discipline in my work which is what I do expect from a college professor. Especially since she has a Phd. Much respect to her but not my type of teacher.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. she has a stupid 3 strike rule where if she comes across the third grammatical error (can be as simple as a misplaced comma) you will get a D-. Pop quizzes very often, papers are impossible. Prepare to do hours and hours of homework for her. Her favorite thing to do is mention her Phd too.

Dr. Burke is a phenomenal professor in my opinion. She gives study guides and extra credit within the course when you really need it. She loves feedback and is very approachable. This is a college class so please study and meet Dr. Burke halfway. If you do so I promise you can't go wrong.

I would've have enjoyed this class with another professor. Toughest grader I've had at SCSU. She'll write all over your work, gives the chance for a redo but doesn't help you correct what was wrong- you have to guess. Lots of work and a quiz every week. Will fail you if you miss even a period in MLA/APA. Take another class in Tier 3 instead

Dr. Burke is excellent. She likes structure. If you do not like structure then do not take her course. She also speaks her mind on everything including politics, if you can't handle that then do not take her course. Yes she is a tough grader but only because she has specific rules and expects you to follow them. She is a fair teacher, and kind.

Awful teacher. Very biased and forces her liberal agenda on students. Very unorganized, speaks poorly and seems like she has no clue what she is talking about. Loves to talk about how she has a Phd though. Do not take this class if you are a logical person. Also rude to students.

She was the most discouraging teacher I had at Southern. I would write 10 page papers via her request, really dedicate hours and passion to writing a heart felt paper and she would hand it back ungraded and say "redo" with no real reason as to why. Only now as I reread some of my work can I declare shes one of the worst teachers at Southern.

I am used to hard graders so this class wasn't too hard for me. review material before quizzes and participate in class and you will do fine. overall good teacher, there for you but makes you work for it. gives extra credit.

A nice woman and generally helpful if you ask for it, but way over-the-top a difficult grader, to the point that it's a bit ridiculous. Very meticulous about specifics in papers and especially MLA format. Absolutely zero flexibility outside of her rules. One of the hardest classes I ever took at Southern.

The chapters are long and you HAVE to read what she assigns, there will always be a quiz on it but it may not be the day after so learn the information dont just read it. You will work hard but will leave the class having learned so much interesting and useful information. She helped me a lot.

tough grader and the chapters are long. if you read and retain the information (DEFINITIONS) you'll do fine on the tests but make sure you study. bring everything you have to class, she will collect something a week after it was due sometimes. DO NOT take as an elective, you have to need this class, or be truly interested and want to learn.

Burke can come off as pretty intimidating at first because she is very strict with her expectations, but she is a great teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and learned SO much because she really knows what she is doing and wants you to understand. This is definitely not an easy A class but Burke will help you as long as you do your part.

Dr. Burke seemed scary at first but she is honestly the best! You will never be bored in class because the topics are very interesting and you will learn a lot of stuff about the media & it's an eye opener. Dr. Burke knows this topic very well & she is a nice lady. Make flash cards! They will help a lot, especially for the quizzes.
