Comment:
Too much work for a Gen-Ed. Lengthy, uninteresting reading that was never discussed in depth, only to be used for the many papers we had. The majority of the class had no clue what we were learning for 10 weeks. If you plan to major in something relevant to the course, go for it with her, make a connection. Otherwise, take it with anyone else.

Great professor! I feel like I really learned something new in her class. There is quite a bit of reading, but it is all interesting and relevant. I enjoy reading, and much of what we read are articles, and chapters from various publications and books. there is no textbook. Overall, she was excellent I would definitely take another course with her!

Flint is a really hard grader. Personality is good but be ready. I am an A student and struggling to stay above a C, most likely won't happen. A lot of ridiculous reading that is boring but there will be quizzes on it which count for most of your grade. I would not take again, AVOID!

Ridiculous amounts of reading, much of which is only somewhat relevant to what is currently being learned in class. Lectures are scattered and tests are difficult to study for since the range of material covered is so broad. Good grades are possible but you will have to work harder for them with this professor than with others.

Seems like a nice person but makes the class unreasonably difficult. Also she would come back from some weekends apologizing how she didn't have papers graded because she was on vacation. It is very irritating to hear about her vacation when I am working for a good grade in that class. She also doesn't post overall grades till end of semester

- All test are papers - many readings - disregards others opinions if they do not match her own opinions - DOES NOT POST OVERALL GRADES - Class is mandatory but attendance doesn't count for anything so it only hurts you... you have a certain number of absence days before you fail.. but when you show up doesn't count for anything -POP QUIZZES -RUN

Dr. Flint is a nice person, but this was perhaps the most unnecessarily difficult class I have ever taken. She graded my work in what seemed like nit-picking ways, such as my main issue would be to develop an argument better and then would pick on my sources which had not initially been a problem. I worked my tail off and I probably earned a C.

This teacher is... to say the least, the most difficult teacher I have taken to date. Extremely hard to please. Very tough grader and the feedback seems like she is nit picking. I am normally an A student or very high B. It just doesn't add up and it is a LOT of reading. smh just beware.

Dr Flint is a good teacher who is very knowledgeable about the subjects she teaches. Homework is a lot of long readers some more interesting than others. Doing the readings are key to succeeding on tests. Overall, its not a bad class for an LBST requirement.

Clearly lays out the terms requirements on day one. As long as you read all of the assigned materials you will do fine, but you will read a lot. Most assignments range from 30 to 50 pages. Pop quizzes on most readings, and very confusing "star" system instead of numerical grades so confusing to keep up with your grades.

This professor is the Queen of Pop Quizzes - which count for the marjority of your grade. The quizzes come from reading assignments.Exams are all essay/short answer and come from lecture notes and readings. She takes attendance so show up.Bottom line - do the work. Not a breeze course but if you think critically like she does you'll do fine!

Absolutely horrid teacher. Received the exact same grade on every single assignment in the class, and her comments didn't even match with the topic at hand. Obviously didn't read any papers, and took FOREVER to grade them. Always blew off meetings or questions, and said to "ask a classmate" when I had problems. Would NEVER take her again.

I am currently in her Modern Africa class and it is the WORST. The amount of clarity she provides is horrible and if it's not how she thinks you should feel, your grade is not good. The class is boring and her teaching style makes it worse. Grades papers and tests without looking at your point of view. And she does need to wear a bra. AVOID HER!

She is very knowledgeable on her subject, but albeit a bit stringent on her grading on her papers. She require lots of reading and writing each week. I learned a lot, but if you're not up to writing a lot, avoid this class.

Comment:
At the beginning of the semester I had no opinion of Dr. Karen Flint. However, as the course progressed I found her to be xenocentric (someone who believes that other cultures and civilizations are superior to their own) and repetitive. I would advise to anyone considering taking one of her classes to avoid it if practicable.
