First, the class is extremely difficult. She makes it much harder than necessary by including trickily-worded questions and talking very fast in class. Significant curve, though. Second, nasty person. She seems nice, but if you have a problem she becomes very mean. Third, daily attendance quizzes. You have to show up to class. All in all, AVOID!!!!

Not a strong presenter. Her slides have a lot going on and class is hard to follow. She gets in the weeds often and the material is difficult. If you've never taken a language class, i do not recommend taking this class.

Wish class had been taught by somebody else. The material was good, like it's pretty interesting stuff. The problem is she makes it boring. She obviously knows a lot of stuff and her class isn't very hard (you'll be fine if you try a little). But she makes things harder than they have to be because of her incompetence as a professor. Love her. She's quirky and intelligent. Obviously passionate. Not easy for psych major because of the linguistics aspect, but this was easily my favorite class. Her exams aren't easy but review quizzes and her exam guide thoroughly and you're good. Go to her office hours. She roots for her students when they are trying. Also, GOD BLESS EXTRA CREDIT

People who do poorly in her class don't put in work. You must go to class and read the textbook. She curves exams, gives 5 chances for extra credit, and then adds more points randomly. 35% of your grade are daily easy attendance quizzes and 10 question weekly online quizzes. Towards the end i had a 107% so doing well in her class is possible.

The only positive thing about her is that she is knowledgeable in her field. Other than that, she is a terrible professor. Do not expect her to learn your name and be prepared to be called "hey you" for 15 weeks, even in a class of 20 students. She is rude in the way she treats and talks to her students and does not offer any help whatsoever.

good professor, must go to class - does random attendance with random passwords to prove you were there. Slides DON'T have all the info, need to go to class. She's nice, curves at the end. The extra credit she offers doesn't help much, only 4 points...

This is a very challenging yet interesting class. The professor is extremely intelligent and has a ton of knowledge. She is very willing to help you during office hours. However, it is a very difficult class, so you need to go to lecture.

Her class is considered hard because it's a psychology class. She is super fascinating, and Dr. Stromswold does an incredible job of weaving together information from decades of studying literature and conducting research; that is exactly what a great professor needs to do, especially in a field laden with more questions than there are yet answers.

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOUR ARE A PSYCH MAJOR. I took it as a core class and it it was PAINFUL, has nothing to do with psychology. Her lectures are LONG AND BORING. I failed both the final and midterm, but did extra credit and got a B , with the curve. STAY AWAY.

I took two classes taught by Dr. S and got As in both with an enormous amount of studying. Although, overall, I found the material to be interesting, Dr. Stromswold was one of the worst professors I've ever had. Just thinking about her sends chills up and down my spine. She was not a nice person.

the people who are complaining are exaggerating, she clearly states on the first day of lecture that if you cannot attend almost every class, don't take it. the material isn't hard at all, it just isn't all that interesting. I took one entry level spanish linguistics class prior (which barely taught me anything) and I got an A.

She is amazing! Very brilliant. Don't listen to the complainers. So long as you put in a little effort, you can certainly attain an A. Always attend class (her exams are drawn from them)! And it couldn't hurt to have at least some background in linguistics prior. Very sweet lady.

i wouldnt say the material is that hard, it's nothing one can't learn. i do feel that she complicates the material, she is very wordy. she could explain something in 2 words but she'd rather explain it in 50. plus the material is pretty boring so it is hard to pay attention. she isnt as bad as everyone is saying... and she is actually pretty nice.

She says you have to go to class to get a decent grade, yet when u go, She rambles on and on so you don't know what to take notes on ( if ur lucky to still be awake) DONT TAKE THIS CLASS STAY AWAY!! The material is so bland! Her exams are hard. Im a double major cellbio+neuroscience/psych I know what hard is. This class is a waste of time+energy!

IF YOU ARE A PSYCH MAJOR RUN. The material in the beginning of the class is pure linguistics. I missed one class that had a chart - which was never posted with an explanation, that had 15 questions on the exam out of 40. I bombed it. The option for the final being your grade definitely saved me as a psych major from this language hell

Prof. Stromswold is simply brilliant. She really knows her material and is highly enthusiastic about what she teaches. Her language courses will be difficult for those without a linguistics background. Take Ling 201 before taking any of her classes. Exams are hard, but if you take notes and study the slides, you will do fine.

Plain and simple, don't take this class if you're not a Linguistics major. Too difficult of a class for a psych major, and there are much easier classes out there that will fill your elective. Avoid!
