Great prof. Challenges you on a weekly basis to do your absolute best work. Readings are key- and there are a lot of them, so make sure you do them! Very fair marker, and you want to earn a good grade from him, because he challenges you to do so. Sometimes instructions for assignments are a bit unclear, but go to office hours and he will clarify.

While I did not appreciate, at the time, how difficult the course was and the amount of work I needed to complete, he taught me more than any other prof.

Hard essay marker, easy midterm, and impossibly hard exam. Tutorials are marked hard as well. Doesn't post lectures and you have to type notes because he goes fast. It's overall a hard course. Don't take unless you have to.

Great prof. Wasn't too keen on the course initially, but he made it interesting through discussion. Gave EVERYONE a chance to speak during discussion; didn't let one jackass dominate the discussion period. Readings are important, don't skip them. Very understanding and reasonable professor (i.e. due dates). He seems to genuinely enjoy teaching.

tests are mostly fair, but the guy is too negative to be teaching first years. will tell you that you are going to do bad and that getting an A is impossible, and then when ppl do get an A on the midterm, will tell you that your mark on the essay will bring it down. not impressed with these kind of comments.

This class was an amazing academic experience. Fleming is knowledgeable, and very approachable. It was tough, but it was totally worth it. Easily one of the best Grad courses I have taken.

Fleming's arrogance was initially off-putting but I had to admit that the guy had charisma. His snotty lectures were an absolute gas to witness. It was too bad that everyone was so busily scrawling notes because Fleming was absolutely priceless. Particularly, when he singled people out for talking.

You can tell he doesn't want to be there. Exams cover the smallest details and have nothing to do with concepts. Clearly doesn't understand the concept of "teaching" as all he does is read.

Fleming's lectures were definitely not the most interesting and nor was the course's curriculum. However, he did cover what he needed to in a clear and DETAILED manner. For first-year MOS students, be sure to read your textbook and not just memorize concepts, but little details as well (i.e. Canada had a trade ______ in 1999).

HORRIBLE PROF! stands there and reads lecture slides to you. Tests random minute details from textbook. Worked my ass of for a 65. Also on a huge power trip, i think he hates teaching first year classes

He smiles on the picture but he rarely smiles anywhere. He's nice, but cold in lectures. There is a rumor that he doesn't like 1st year students. Make sure you memorize EVERYTHING, it's hard to know what concepts he will test you on. And for the written assignment, make sure you finish it as early as possible. I didn't like him.

Very boring lectures. The books he uses are very poorly written, explaining simple concepts with repetitive words and complicating organization. The exams are definitely ridiculous and unfair, asking detailed questions that don't help understand concepts at all. An interesting course subject very badly taught and tested. Very disappointed.

The exams for ACS020 were possibly the most ridiculous exams. You're expected to write 3 essays and a ton of multiple choice questions. The Wolfe Novel was possibly the silliest book ever, and is definitely not coherent for the average reader. Get some kinda coles notes for that stuff. The TA, Mr.Dove is pretty good, if you have him. Good luck!

A nice but monotonous prof, the material is not too difficult. Be prepared to either get notes off of someone's computer or write like a madman during class to copy down every slide. The textbook is fairly easy to understand but the novel (Wolf) is ridiculously tough. Essays are graded very hard and exams are SO rushed and pick at details.

VERY BIASED COURSE! Hated it! Have to memorize small details which are of no importance to get a good mark. Friendly prof., but annoying during lectures (doesn't post them online, tests you heavily on them during exams). TIP: Memorize the textbook and your lecture notes! And Jeff Vacante is an awesome TA; he presents both sides of the argument!

Very clear lecturer, and knows his stuff! Start reading your book for your essay very early. Once, I had a medical problem, and I approached him in his office and he was very accomodating with rescheduling my midterm. His midterms and exams are very time consuming! (especially the final exam - 3 essays!)
