Ken Alrutz was a tremendous professor--one of my favorites at Miami. His enthusiasm for teaching and interest in his students made him one of a kind. Likewise, he is one of the reasons I pursued graduate studies in English. It is unfortunate that he is no longer teaching at Miami.

Whoever doesnt like Ken Alrutz obviously wasn't intelligent enough to appreciate him and is obviously bitter they didn't get a good grade in his class. I took three of his classes and I had him as a teacher before I even came to Miami. Ken was a big reason I decided to become an English Major. He doesnt play favorites at all, only appreciates students who activley engage in class and want to learn. He and Kerry Powell are the two best teachers at Miami, and we surely miss him.

Ken is engaging and funny and charismatic and honestly cares about his students. The people who are calling him creepy are on something. The reading is heavy so it's time intensive, but worth your while. I took one class, and liked it so much I took another the next semester, even though I didn't need it. Honestly worth your time. Plus, his reading material is interesting and eclectic. I kept every book we read.

Hes interesting. Be on time to class or hell lock you out! He grades the first essays really hard but is easier with final grades. He claims the only essay that matters is the last- which is your final grade. So don't worry if you get a D- on the first.
