Dr. Sanson presents all of the test material in class, is available to answer questions about papers, and is a consistent grader. I never read the books in his classes, spark notes is always adequate in order to get an A. He appreciates good writing, put in a little effort all semester and you'll get a great grade.

He's tough, but you'll learn a lot. Usually nothing but history majors so expect to actually work for your degree. Combined with lectures, book readings ARE A MUST if you expect a decent grade on the 4 tests he gives during the semester. Final is just another test. Not weighted any larger.

Def. a hard course. Be prepared to take notes from the moment classes begin until the very last day of class. His test are also tough. I have ha a hard time in this course and I have been there taking notes nearly every class period. Reading required for every test (at least 3 chapters).

No power points, no text book, on study guide, ect. He just walks in and starts talking. Hope you can write as fast as he talks. Oh and his essay exams are very subjective.

worst possible teacher ever! tries to cover a ridicilous amount of material in not enough time. the way he teaches could be done by a tape recorder. He dose not cover what information will be on the test...miserable is the only word that comes to mind when thinking of his class

Easy professor. No paper required. Provides study guide. You will have to learn a lot of information though. For those of you that complained about Sanson you are so biased probably because you did poorly on his exams even when he curves an entire letter grade. I had a 110 A average and only studied 2 hrs per test. If you go to class and pay attention, even though he is torture listening to, you should make a B minimum.

Take good notes. Best way to pass is not to take notes in class, but to pay attention while recording, then go home and listen to recordings and write your notes then. His tests are fairly easy and he grades on a curve. Hardest exam is usually the final. OH and he is BORING as HELL.

This guy is still around because he is a money maker. I know students who have taken the class four times. It is a requirement for their major. He's the only person who teaches it. They are impressed because he's written books. There are more effective teaching methods. Can you hear me back there in 1973?

Learning by rote? At the University level? Are we in Singapore? People are dropping out of this class in droves. People actually cry when they get the test results. That's how bad it is...Takes a fascinating subject and makes you despise it.

Tests based on huge amounts of information. Gives no indication of what is important to know for test. Must have photographic memory to do well in this class. University could just as well hire a tape recorder to teach in this manner.

If you are the type of student that loves to memorize information that can be referenced, this class is for you. He may tell you dates are not important, however, dates will appear on the tests. He does not review for tests. He will give out a list of questions for review, however, the test material may not be from this list. For History Majors

Straight lectures with no class participation. You have to put it in perspective though. You are getting taught La Hist by one of the foremost experts. I laughed at those non-History majors who took this class thinking it was an easy A. You will have to study your butt off. Dr. Sanson seems somewhat shy out of class but a kind and decent man.

There are notes being passed around since 2000 and they are exact word for word. Study those and you will be set, but know them word for word because with this and bonus I still made a B. Also know all the parishes-where and spelling bc that is like the first 2 weeks of class.

He is very smart, and he talks the whole class hour, and you are writing the whole hour! To pass his class, you need a recorder to catch some things you weren't able to write. Reading the book helps, but the information he teaches is different. Record his lectures, take good notes, and you'll make a good grade. Don't miss a class!

He is very smart and he knows his stuff, but every class is lecture and you take notes the whole time. He never stops talking, there is never any discussion. If you want to pass the tests you have to read the text book and all your notes as well.

I loved this class! I took this class during a summer semester with 3 other classes. I made A's on every test, so the clas is definately passable! Take notes and study hard! It would also be helpful if you know your parishes ahead of time!
