Comment:

Dr. Helm is literally one of the best teachers at Siena. His lectures are extremely enjoyable, and his stories and analogies will really help you understand the material. He is extremely accessible outside of class, and loves to talk to students. Definitely would recommend for any class.

Comment:

Took the class with Helm, and I did horrible. Retook the class with Shea who was here for a year, and I did great. I learned so much the second time (not helm) that I have applied to other courses. These two were total opposites and I wish I avoided Helm to begin with.

Had Him for Lab. Avoid him at all cost. Treats lab like lecture , a lot of information, and his exams are very long and specific, you will not do well on them unless you have perfect notes and study them vigorously. Not approachable, doesn't like to answer questions, his key phrase is "figure it out kid", thinks he is teaching us but is just lazy

Dr. Helm was a great professor. I liked going to class every day. Labs were hard sometimes to make them work. It was a small class so Helm got to know all us students pretty well! Overall, I enjoyed the course material and I liked Dr. Helm.

Helm is a pretty bad teacher overall. if you can an avoid him, avoid him. but if your stuck with him READ THE BOOK! it is your only chance at passing. he will go over the topics in class but his style is scatterbrained and you won't have the understanding you need from lecture. STUDY OLD TESTs, he always repeats at least half the questions,

Very poor quality, Would not recommend taking him. barely teaches, is very confusing in class and expects you to suddenly know everything out of the book. so read the book, its the only way you will pass and don't expect him to help, he doesn't know how to do that

Great teacher. If you go to his office he is very willing to help. Also gives you tests from previous years as study guides which are nearly identical to the tests he gives. He makes a study guide for the class before every tests uses a lot of drawings in notes and they can sometimes be confusing. Overall he's a funny guy and a great teacher

He was a great teacher. He moved a bit fast and it was sometimes hard to follow but if I ever had I would just go to extra help and he would clarify anything I didn't under stand. He is always available for extra help so take advantage of it. He also gives out practice exams and they are pretty similar to the actual exam.

Dr. Helm is a very good teacher. He is very helpful and clear, he wants students to do well. the textbook doesn't help much but he only puts things he discusses on the test. Cell bio is not easy but it has nothing to do with how he teaches, it's the subject material. He's usually available in his office and is always willing to answer questions.

Nice guy. not very good at teaching. you wont know what your supposed to know because he gives you an outline that is really broad and the book goes in depth, so you try to know everything but that is too much, so study his old test very well and try to use that to understand the depth of what you need to know, very similar to what he will give you

I've had him for a couple classes and he is by far one of my favorites. He teaches the way I think, with pictures, so it helps a lot. However, I do notice that his teaching style may not be universally loved.
