Dr. O is a really great guy who seems to really care about his students. He is also very talented with writing drill and teaching it. With that being said, the halftime shows have gotten increasingly more bland each year he's been in charge. There are three halftime shows a year and you're lucky if one of them is even moderately entertaining.

Dr. O is one of the nicest professors I have met while attending the University of Alabama. He loves what he does and has some of the funniest comments during rehearsal. Definitely makes MDB practice a whole lot more bearable.

Dr. O is a GREAT band director. He has a lot of corny jokes and stories about his dog, but he cares about the entire MDB and he loves to give life lessons during rehearsal. He is very knowledgeable and helpful about anything musically. He tries to know students on a first name basis, which is hard when there are 400 people on the field. Love Dr. O!

I took several classes from Dr. O including marching band, symphonic band, and fundamentals of conducting. He was my teacher about 10 years ago, so this was before he was Dr. O and only Asst. Director of the MDB. He was always a very nice person and I enjoyed his classes. I thought he was a better symphonic band director than a marching band director, however. We had the opportunity of having him direct the MDB alone when Ms. Scott was out for a month or so due to surgery. An overall good professor.

I liked having Dr. O. He is nicer than Scott was and not as tough (which could work both ways as I didn't think our shows were quite as impressive as in the past). He actually lets us take real breaks during band camp and asks our opinion on things.
