Ken is a solid teacher overall. Expects you to put in the work but rewards for you for doing so. When more than half the class wasn't prepared for the test he pushed it back and made us practice in class. Very informative and teaches you a lot about piano. That said the one gripe I have is he would waste class time discussing politics. Unfortunate.

I felt in his classes that I can develop my skills in music step by step. He has a great book "Wow, I have Ten Fingers" is a book for beginner/Intermediate. I read it and also studied his book and now I feel capable to teach my own children. Thank you professor Ard.

Ken Ard is one of the best professors. I learned tons in his class because he wrote book" Wow, I have Ten Fingers" that is easy to read an understand , he included tips. " Use this book like a cookbook-one step at the time. Remember learning comes from the doing. Do not try to understand a principle before you have tried to Do it" Great advice!

Professor Ken Ard is one of the Great Professors that you find and you feel lucky. He is an amazing professor always ready to support the students and to share his knowledge about music and even his experiences as a musician. He has the talent to teach even if you don't have any background in music.

Professor Ard expected a lot from us, but he was always patient and fun. We did a lot of improvising as opposed to just learning boring music from a book. He uses his own book in class which is pretty cool, especially the lesson on blues. I always looked forward to going to piano class, and I will take the next level of piano from him.

Ken Ard was one of the best teachers I ever had at Grossmont. He is tough and expects a lot, but grades very fairly, and will help you as much as possible. He continually motivates and tries to get the most from each student. I liked him a lot!

Very demanding of students, you really gotta be on your game. He tried to get you to use all of your brain and push it to the limits of what you think you can do. If you are not a musician, you will most likely not do so well

I tried to take the Beginning Piano class with Ard. It was okay at first but the moment there is something you don't understand, you're lost for the rest of the class. Its very fast pace and can leave you in the dust if you don't have an idea of what you're doing. I got buried and behind and had to drop, as did 2 other people I know in the class

Mr Ard does not teach, he instructs. He knows his subject but does no teach the subject to students. He simply Instructs them as to what to do. He prefers students who already know the subject instead students who come in to learn the subject.

Not the teacher to take if your trying to fill the Gen Ed. requirement. He's very knowledgeable and very skilled. His teaching style is very direct and straight forward. He'll tell you that you need to practice, if you dont practice. But he'll be glad to repeat anything. An excellent teacher. I took his class and learned a lot. Dedication is key!!

One word of advice: practice. A lot of people I know who didn't play piano before taking the class still did well because they practiced and took the work seriously. Ken doesn't ask for a lot and what he does is simple if you try. Favorite teacher!
