Comment:

Kent really is a gem, and I don't say that about professors often. Kind of comes across as a jerk at first, but his high expectations are perfectly reasonable for a 300-level course. If you put in the effort, he'll move mountains to try and help you understand the material. If you're gonna take lin. alg., you might as well take it with him.

Comment:

Kent is story teller. He does not teach a lot knowledge but tell stories in the class. After time goes through a half, he speed through the rest of the information. His notes are hard to read and pretty mess. To be honest, his test is weirded. Numerous definition must be stated as clear as book in the test even it is a computational question.

Kent is a great guy and really wants to help students but he isn't a good professor. His notes are confusing and he speeds through his lectures. Your entire grade is the tests. There really isn't anyway to help your grade because webwork doesn't give you a good enough cushion. Choose a professor who has more things in the grade book.

Kent is such an awesome professor. Very knowledgeable on the topic and extremely willing to help in and out of class. Always tries to finish material one week before exam so you can absorb it. You don't really need the book since all the lectures and homework are online. Not sure I would have passed if I hadn't had him

The material is complex and there is lots of homework (weed out class). However, there are lots of free resources on campus and Kent holds office hours where he will answer as many questions as you have. Attendance isn't mandatory but the book will not get you by. Go to class, do the homework, ask questions. Kent is your friend.

I was not a fan of his teaching style. His lectures are very confusing, and I had to teach myself all of the material outside of class to do well in the course. He goes so much into the theory of linear algebra, but the exams are purely computational. He gives homework but no answer keys, which is not helpful at all. Go to office hours.

Kent is a good professor. He insists on being called just Kent even though he has a PHD. He gets really passionate in his lectures and people sometime perceive him as being angry, but that's just his personality. He will go out of his way to help if you ask. His tests were difficult, but he let us replace the first exam with the midterm grade.

Kent is my favourite professor at IUB by a long shot. Exceptional personality, loves his subject and loves his students. S303 is a very challenging course and there are times when you feel like you're just copying down jargon, but Kent will go the extra mile to help you understand the concepts.

Kent cares so much about you, but only if you care about his class and work hard. You have to go to class and study the material and if you do, you'll be fine. Too many students get bad grades simply because they didn't want to sit through class. His tests aren't hard at all compared to the midterm and final-get your points on his tests and hw.

I've had a lot of amazing professors at IU, but I'd have to say that Kent is by far my favorite. He cares so much about his students, and as such, he expects a lot from them. He holds very high standards, but he's perfectly willing to devote the time to help you if you're willing to put in the time yourself.

Kent can teach about anything and does (even though sometimes you just want to get on with it)! Heâ??s stiff with attendance, and TAKE NOTES and act like you care!!! So much is offered if you do. Need help, then ask him.

Expects students to work hard, but will give students as much help as they need during office hours. Great at answering email. I sent him a question after midnight before and assignment was due and I got my answer back in five minutes. Incredibly enthusiastic, he probably converted half the class into math majors.

He was very helpful during office hours, but the class was difficult enough that his office was usually swarmed with students. I really appreciate that he didn't dumb things down because of a few students who didn't study. He did go off on rants sometimes, but they were mostly amusing. He is definitely passionate about math.

Very good prof. M118 is a tough course, but he did a very good job and really cared about his students. I highly recommend this teacher.
