One of the best professors I've ever had in my life. He inspired me to push beyond what I thought I could do and really reach for my analysis. I am a better scholar, analyst, and teacher because of him. If you have the chance to take a Gustafson class, DO IT. You won't regret it.

This was a study abroad class in Scotland. Prof. Gustafson really enjoys teaching and does a great job connecting disparate texts in interesting ways. It was a literature class so we read a lot but not anything more than any normal literature class. We just had to do it while on the road and in a hurry. Cares about the students.

Cute? If you think a trendy version of Steve Carell is cute, then by all means. =) Took 4301 over winter and got an A. W/ a Linguistic b/g in phonology and syntax this class is fairly easy. If not, be prepared for HELL. Gustafson himself has little knowledge of linguistics other than what is required to teach this class, so he's very lenient.

I took History of the English Language over Wintermester. It was a challenging class, however I enjoyed it so much. I got a B in the class. I learned SO much and would most def. take another class from him. Lots of reading/workbook homework, memorizing, etc. Just study, and you'll do fine if literature and such interests you.

I took his History of English Lit course over the wintermester last year. It was the hardest class I have ever taken. I have never worked so hard for a B in my life. His final was 4 hours long. The entire class is phonetics, old english and middle english. He is a really nice guy, and yes he is cute but I cried when his class was over, tears of joy

Chaucer - VERY enjoyable class. He's very knowledgable of the history &culture of the time period. As long as you keep up with the coursework (for us, translations for quizzes) and participate in discussions, you will do well. I would recommend ANY class with him, especially if it is Medieval/Renaissance literature. He's funny, engaging, & CUTE!

Very friendly, helpful, and easy to understand. While he expected good work, he was fair and willing to help his students achieve the grade they wanted. He talks A LOT, but is a very nice, friendly person. There was a lot of writing for the course, but it helped improve my writing and understanding of the texts. Also very attractive...
