Rob truly cares about his students and wants them to excel in their coursework. He is one of the most organized professors I have ever had, and lectures are clear. Exams and assignments are fair. I would suggest taking a class with Rob to any music student.

Rob is exacting. He'll correct you if you say "F" and you meant "F#". But that is part of his charm. Class pace is brisk if you have a weak background. Rob cares about his students, helping before, during and after class and usually inviting them to meet his family. What you see is what you get - straight-laced academic, always on time.

very nice and extremely smart (not to mention seriously musically inclined, probably has perfect pitch) man, but his class isn't all fun... the papers are kind of hard and he isn't the easiest grader...

Great class, very discussion based. Hopkins makes his students think and try to express how music makes them feel in words, which is hard to do. Loves music, esp. 19th century, and it shows. Amusing at times. Highly recommended.

Rob Hopkins teaches music THEORY is a mathmetical way because, well, it's mathmetical. It is foolish to take a music theory class expecting it to be in any way like English. Rob is professional and a genius; i seriously recommend him to any of those with a keen interest in music.

Prof. Hopkins is a very kind man and he certainly loves music. However, I found his teaching style clashed with my learning style. He teaches in a very mathematical way (probably because he was a music and math dual major) and I am more of an english person. If you like math, he's a good teacher.
