With Parvin, you can either stay awake & learn from lecture, or fall asleep and learn on your own. Two midterms and a final are mostly based on MasteringPhysics problems with the addition of concepts and derivations in class. He makes a ton of errors in derivations so be careful when taking notes. Also takes five minute breaks in middle of class.

Great professor. You can understand everything you need to pass just from lecture. Don't let stiffness fool you, he is approachable. If I was a better student in general then I would've gotten at least a B.

He's a great teacher if you pay attention in class. His homework is online and not that difficult. The things you learn in class are mostly on the test and some questions from the homework. He's really clear during lectures and wants you to learn. I haven't read the book and have been doing great just from lectures.

Challenging class, but Prof. Parvin makes it easy. Really good about reviewing/summarizing material, responsive to questions in class, and halfway through the semester started giving us the worked out solutions to the homework before it was due so we could use it. Made homework way easier!

He's a good guy, and a nice person, but his style of teaching is a little hard to grasp. Electricity and Magnetics is a tough subject to teach well. Take him if you're gifted in physics. Also he grades harshly.

Might be a smart guy, but worst teacher ever. ONLY teaches theory, no problems with numbers. then expects you to be able to do problems with numbers on the homeworks. then expects you to recite the proofs of the theory EXACTLY for the tests. do not take him, at any cost. ANY COST.

I dont know what to say....midterms are pretty hard, and he doesnt really tell you how hes curving it so we dont know how we're doing in the class. In lectures he pretty much goes over everyones head so its pointless.

Unlike most tests where you use the formulas derived in the book, his requires you to prove them. He skims through most of the chapters and leaves many of the students lost. Everyone expected a much larger curve than was given. Tough subject so it really isn't his fault.

your best chances of getting an A in this class is to do slightly better than the other idiots with a D average...the whole class depends on the crazy gaping curve. this guy is somewhat intimidating and unclear; get the solution manual early on since homework itself is worth much. go to office hrs!

this prof is very knowledgable.. classes might get boring as time goes on but midterms and finals are straight out from lectures. His class isnt the easiest but you will definately learn something, go to his office during office hours.. you will benefit alot. HW alone already cover 20% of the grade.

I feel bad for the guy cuz he tries so hard, but he just doesn't explain the material too well and leaves most of the class lost. He is an ok grader but just writes equations on the board and assumes u can understand it. Maybe it is just the material, but its a hard class

I am a junior CS major. took his phys 51 class and barely passed. Got my first C so far. Strange man. I would NOT recommend him...ok, unless you are a hardcore physics student, you ll do well. He is not fair. He is the type of teacher that tries to flank you if he can. Gosh,am i glad i am a cs major
