Comment:

Professor Colligan gives great insight and connect literary works to modern society. She was unorganized and did not return essays. Her standards were unclear but she was flexible. She helps improve your writing but student should already know essay structure to do well. All papers had similar themes so they were easy to write.

I had her during Fall quarter '09. She is definitely not a professor you want to take if you're looking for that easy A. However, if you're hoping to improve your writing skills and gain some useful insight, she's the one. She may seem tough, but if you're willing to learn she's great.

She was one of the best English teacher I have had a t De Anza. I took her summer course and it was so much fun. she helped me improve my writing skills and help support me while I and my sister were in the hospital. (Different times) She also helped me look at things in a different way. Highly recommended.

What a BS class, seriously! At first I got confused if this was an English class or a History class. Topics are so boring, about some stupid greek crap...OMFG! She does not know the definition of "I never missed a class, payed attention and tried so hard on my essays". She only cares about what she thinks...pathetic "professor". Should be fired!!

She is a wonderful teacher. I took her summer class while having problems in my personal life.. I explained to her I'd have to drop and she GAVE ME A HUG and told me how to sign up for her class in the fall instead. She is a caring person and an extremely helpful teacher. I learned a lot and it wasn't too hard.

It's really hard to figure out what she wants on an essay! Luckily, she lets you rewrite the essays you've written in the first three weeks (I'm talking about summer session). Great choice of intellectual readings and discussions. Not trivial reading but great varied writings from modern,historical, plays, politics,and ancient Greece. Great class for working English and expanding horizons. Marks essays very thorough and sits with you in individual sessions. Not tough A really, but not easy either. very understanding too

Comment:

Very Demanding. Her theme is Justice for this class; its quite interesting. We studied "Letter from Birmingham Jail," "Civil Disobedience," "Letter to Philomen,and Sophocles, and various essays. Make sure you sit in the front if you don't want to get picked on all the time. Her essays take forever to write. I think she said the final is 2 essays.

Very hard class but I learned alot. Be sure to go to her OH since she will let you rewrite your previous essays if you did not get an A. Theoretically, you could rewrite all of them for an A but that was too time consuming for me. She is really strict with MLA for everything especially the works cited.

I took her course after being out of school for 3+ years. I got an A, but she is hard. She has a predetermined notion of what is right and wrong in an essay. As long as you mimic her writing style and personality in your work, you should achieve a passing grade. Surprises are okay, but substantiate them. Her class was more a head game for me.

the most terrible of them all and will often make you look stupid. more of a history teacher and will not take time to grade each essay. essay will not be returned back and if your waiting for comments back they will not be clear. she needs to be more of a history teacher than a english teacher!
