Very boring class. The entire hour of class time was filled with her lecturing on one simple concept so it took forever to get through anything. The essay assignments were extremely difficult. The class did not seem like a 100 level at all. Don't take this class if analyzing literature is not your thing.

Honestly, I have never had someone as tough as a grader as her. She is a very rough grader, and when asked about how to improve she gives too vague of an answer. I had to redo my essays 4 times to receive a decent grade. Avoid her at all costs.

Professor McDermott was kind and always held a smile on her face. 143WI is a pretty solid choice for a writing intensive class. She was very analytical and knowledgeable about the topics she instructed. It was amazing to watch her break down a single block comic and have a full understanding about everything going on, and discuss it.

Very unorganized, we are two weeks behind on the syllabus and we haven't had anything graded since week 3 of the semester. If you can take it with another professor, do it.

The class was very unorganized and unspecific. There was no clear grading criteria and there was always something wrong.

This class is meant to be about comedy, and I dont think I have sat through anything more dry. I barely show up to class and if I did a little more of the reading I would have an A instead of a B. Not hard at all just incredibly boring. If you are excited about this class like I was, dont be- she sounds like the teacher in Ferris Bueller's day off

The toughest part about this class is that it seems to last an eternity. Unbelievably boring, took this class expecting it to be quite easy and maybe get a couple laughs out of the topics. However, there is little to none actual comedy involved in this class. If I had known this I would've just taken a 300+ level WI instead of this snooze fest

Don't buy the book - everything Shakespeare related is free online. I had no clue what she wanted in this class because a lot of the work seemed repetitive. She also takes FOREVER to return papers, so you have no clue how you're doing in the class. Which is frustrating. It's a very dry class if you're not into reading a TON of Shakespeare plays.

I loved her! She actually made me enjoy Beowulf and other English lit. She doesn't take attendance, but if you go you will learn so much more about the text. She knows a lot about Literature and is pretty amazing. She also revisions and is very helpful with her critiques on papers. I definitely recommend.

Dr. McDermott's lectures are wonderful because she knows so much about the renaissance, christianity, etc. I learned a lot from her courses and they were interesting. The only bummer is she just hands out the typical B+ for most papers. However, you can redo them for an A. It just takes time for the grade to be posted.

Easily one of my most favorite professors ever. She KNOWS her stuff like no other and makes it fun. Lots of video clips. I took 349 and 235 with her and am about to take 549. She is so helpful and nice and an easy grader. I get an A on everything, but I also go to every class and pay attention. Do those two simple things and you will be fine. Love!

Mcdermmot is awesome. She is so passionate about Shakespeare and could talk forever about him - one of the cons. Most of class is discussion about the play, posts on blackboard, and 2 essays. She's a bit of a tough grader, but only because she knows it's not difficult to read the read the plays. Use sparknotes.

Here's a shocker: it's always the students who don't want to be here anyway who score challenging profss the lowest. The reviews by the last two dummies prove it. Prof. Mcd is awesome. Ask her something. You'll see. You get what you put into this class. I went to her office hours with questions and she was great. She's a prof who really cares!

She is a completely awful teacher. She walks in class sits down and retells us everything we just read. She made me not like Shakespeare. She never gets our grades back to us in a timely fashion and refuses to inform us if she cancels class until five minutes before. Worthless, get someone else!

she is an awful professor. she doesn't teach you, she merely restates sentences from the plays. she's not friendly, and her exams are 20 times harder than you would ever guess from her study guides. do not take any of her classes!

If you go to class and pay attention you will be fine in this class. I have not read a single book for this class and I have an A because she walks you through every book and doesn't test on things that she doesn't cover in class. She's very nice and laid back as well.

I liked Professor McDermott. She is VERY knowledgeable about Shakespeare and is good at teaching him. The class is not hard if you pay attention to her lectures and study well for the tests. There are 3 tests throughout the semester, a small presentation, two papers, and a final. She offers lots of extra credit. I really recommend this class.

Shes actually a very good teacher. The notes she tells us are understandable but she does tend to speed through them super quick to the point where your just writing notes & not listening to any explanation she gives. Other than that shes pretty easy, just make sure your down w/ reading & bein able 2 understand what goes on in stories, youll b fine

Dr. McDermott is very knowledgeable about her subject, however, I found this class extremely difficult. I had a hard time writing papers on the subject, which is what I normally excel at. Participation points (which is just like take home paragraph writing), two exams, two or three papers, and an inclass expilcation of a poem makes up your grade.
