He is a cool guy and gives alot of opportunities, but never teaches and never helps. He claims it is him enforcing problem solving abilities, but it doesnt.

Comment:

Affonso is a great guy, but I wouldnt suggest taking him for core CS classes. The assignments are in the syllabus and the course will definitely follow that, but class-time is spent discussing various opportunities that most of the class (being an introductory class) isnt qualified for. Hed make a great advisor, but hes a disorganized teacher.

I love Affonso, but his teaching style is something that structure oriented students should avoid. He truly does care about each of his students and wants us all to succeed, but he is very disorganized when it comes to actually collecting assignments. You will be able to get an A as long as you actually participate in the class and around campus.

Comment:

Hes a good guy, but when he shows up to class (which is becoming more and more rare as the semester goes on) he comes in with no lecture ever and on the online labs he is next to no help. He is amazing for internships, but not much else. His expirential learning technique is highly ineffective and you learn nothing.

I've taken his Cybersecurity class and another as well and overall the man has no clue what's going on. He is unhelpful, especially when it comes to difficult things like labs and online certifications, and is unclear. He does give good internships but he never really teaches or does any real work with his students.

This was a great online computer science class on Cybersecurity. It was a lot more interesting than I expected and the voicethread discussions were a great way to hear from classmates in this online class.

I have taken Affonso for two classes and I can honestly say that I have learned barely anything. He has the best intentions but he goes off on tangents and, a lot of the time, he has no idea what he's talking about. Out of class he provides countless opportunities and I would recommend getting to know him, but he is not a good teacher.

Professor Affonso is a phenomenal teacher who actually cares about his students. He truly wants you to land a great job upon graduation and he teaches things that would help in the real world. Show up to class or else he will actually call you on your phone. I can't recommend him enough, he represents the quintessential CofC experience.

Great professor to have, pushed students to do activities outside of the class but didn't make require you to. Helped me make very good connections with people my first semester and elevated me to a position where I could get the best insight on what I wanted to do. I plan on taking him again in the future if I can.

He's fantastic! he is ready to help you get the job you want and prepare you for the real world! He is all about helping you in the class too. He'll try to scare you into dropping by sending you emails over the summer and being hard on you until add drop is over then he'll lighten up. Totally worth it! He's great!

This was an extremely manageable online express course. Affonso was awesome. Emailed regularly with encouraging words and wanted us to succeed. There was a lot go online homework, but that's what you get when you take a 7 week course. 100% recommend Lancie!!

Comment:

Professor Affonso one of COFC legends! He is a great teacher. Never met anyone who teaches like he does it's a bit crazy. I learned so much. He is hilarious. You will learn so much from him and will want to come to every class. He's always there to help if you need it anytime. Just be on your toes. One of the best professors at the college and he won a bunch of awards teacher of the year best FYE teacher since 2010. If you can take his class I would highly recommend it. Really good teacher and knows what he is talking about.

Prof Affonso is one of the best at CofC. He's unpredictable, but everything he assigns has real world value. The simulation is difficult and he won't give much guidance, so expect a lot of group meetings. Get someone good at acct/finc in your group!! Go to class or he'll call you out. No tests, just weekly open-book quizzes and other assignments

When I signed up for this class, I didn't know that it would be so computer science based but it's still very interesting (my FYE is Technology, Innovation, and Sustainability). There is a fair amount of homework, but if you read the two books that are assigned, it is simple.
