Oh Larry, He's not the best at explaining things so get ready to read the textbook and to make your notes. Also he took all his final exam Qs from the study area of MasteringBio. I taught myself the course. If you have a good work ethic and like reading you'll do fine but if you learn better from hearing rather than reading find a different prof.

Larry Hale is a genuine guy. He goes through material fairly quick so you need to take on the responsibility of doing your reading after class. He is sometimes hard to understand but he gets the point across eventually.

Great personality, hard exams, mostly clear with what you should know, interested in the topics, available for help, good luck passing if you don't go to class, posts everything online, provides sample exams, used his powerpoints more than the textbook, do the masteringbio assignments.

Just one word. DON'T choose him if you are not a good reader and do not have enough time to do the online homework! Especially if you are a second language learner like me! YOU WILL GO CRAZY by his teaching style because he always jumps from one topic to another and always making non-related and nobody-care jokes!

Has the potential to be a great professor. However, he expects students to know more than the grade 12 curriculum teaches, as well as says he will test on one thing and tests on another. Beware, his tests are full of surprises

lecture heavy. Read the textbook thoroughly and do the mastering biology assignments. There is a section on the mastering biology website called "dynamic study modules" and they are questions that are generated by Pearson. Majority of the multiple choice on the mid terms and exams are the questions from the Pearson test bank.

Have heard nothing but bad things about him, however I thought he was a pretty good prof for microbiology. Clear on what is to be tested. Gives decent lecture notes on moodle.

Larry Hale is an amazing professor with clear grading criteria. He also wants the progress of students during midterms so he organises a mini quiz to prep students for the midterm. Glad to take a class with him again.

Says he wont test on certain names/tables from the text that he covers but there will be questions on them on the tests. Doesn't give clear instruction on what to read from the text. Suggested to by the new textbook for use of the online material because the quiz/test will be similar but it was not.

I'm only two weeks into his class and already completely lost. He expects his students to have way more previous knowledge than we do. He bases everything off of the textbook. He's making me dislike bio. He laughs at his bad jokes a lot and its awkward. The notes he provides are not good, read the textbook! Good luck; you'll need it.

I looked up Larry Hale on this site before attending class, and something stuck out at me: "an inch deep and a mile wide". It's true. But he conveys it in a good way and if you really study the textbook it's nor impossible. I think he's the very embodiment of what you'd expect in a professor.

Comment:

Dr. Hale has a lovely personality,and interacts very well with the class. A bad joke here and there but he does get the material across to you. Very good to keep you updated on goings on in the class via email, so check your inbox daily! TIP: He likes Pulp Fiction a LOT so if you talk to him about it, he'll probably love you.
