Comment:
Dr. Hughes is one of the best and most passionate profs I have ever met. His classes are very tough but the learning objectives are fair and without them, CE students would have ZERO chance succeeding in meaningful software engineering roles. That said, assignments take hundreds of hours each and poor attendance will result in a fail. Guaranteed.

Best software/computer prof at the university. Makes sure that you are rewarded for your hard work by coming out of a very hard course with a great understanding of computer architecture, real time systems, and programming. Highly respected name in industry locally. I have been asked at job interviews how I did in his courses.

Best Prof at Dal. 3403 (and RTOS) is one of the hardest classes possible, but it is also one of the big reasons that I got my job. Hughes whips you into an actual programmer. After this class, you are actually able to design, test, and produce real software. However- this class takes precedence over all others. Get ready to put 100's of hours in.

Only reason that Dalhousie Electrical Students in the Computer stream have a great shot at beating computer science and even computer engineering students out of jobs in the work force.

The class is hard. Hughes is a really good prof, but get ready for a truly unreasonable amount of homework.

He misses the point of teaching and instead used the class as C/C++ course. The minute details of the 6502 were learned and will never be useful in practice. Prepare for 30-50 hour assignments every three weeks.

This man is terrifying, but mostly only because he is one of the few professors whose opinion I care about. He is one of the best professors in the entire department. His hearing is unbelievable, though, so don't say anything you wouldn't want him to hear within a kilometer of campus.

the best prof in ECED. this man will help his students whenever they ask for it, he teaches you things that employers love to see, and he is extremely personal. larry should be teaching every course in ECED, or at least be in charge of replacing the idiots that are teaching now

Too much emphasis on how to write good programming code. The entire lecture is about code, code code. There is really not much concept of real time operating system being covered. Really wondering whether Hughes know anything about real time operation system?

There is no doubt that he is a great teacher. Unfortunately, very few material related to computer networks (not even one sigle equation) is covered. The course is transformed to an introduction on programming. Sadly, he can't even maintain the standard in marking student's program code

Back in 1776, long before the time of modern computers, Larry Hughes was conceived during a terrible storm. Sadly, the sack of potatoes that his mother had gathered to feed him for the first months was not enough to keep him happy.Dont look him in the eye

Dr. Hughes is a fantastic prof- demanding, but fair, and extremely educational. If you want to do well in his courses, don't be disruptive in his classes (walk in late, talk, etc), and show up to EVERY SINGLE CLASS.
