When he did lecture, I found it to be informative. The class discussions were also interesting. Learned a lot about some moral atrocities of the 20th century, as well as morality and responsibility in general. Overall, I thought he did a good job in presenting the material.

One of the best classes I've taken at Bowdoin. Simon challenges us to think critically about ourselves and the world we live in. Sure, powerpoint presentations are a drag, but just do the readings and come to class ready for combat: he'll indulge you in serious discussion if you're willing to put in the effort to say something smart.

He likes to talk and his powerpoints/lectures are boring, but in his discussion group he is absolutely hilarious. Very nice guy too: had some students who were stuck on campus over for Thanksgiving dinner.

Prof Simon was VERY long-winded but super nice. Since it was a seminar, the fact that he turned it into a lecture course was disappointing, but overall he is a nice person. I cant say that I learned a whole lot from the course though.

whoever commented that he is the best of the three lecturers must not have gone to a single es 101 class or did not take it with Dharni and Dewitt. I took the class last year and found him to be the most ineffective lecturer- reading directly from sixty ppt slides with novels written on each are not good means of lecturing.

He's getting killed here, but I learned lots in his class. I guess he did lecture a lot, but the lectures were interesting. He was a nice guy, and reasonable, and seemed to be a fair grader.

Nice guy, but his lectures were painful-60 powerpoint slides of pure text. He could be more concise. He tends to ramble as well. While I did learn some things from his section of the class, the gain was small compared to the hours of boredom.

A really nice, smart guy and a great prof. Although Larry is a little out of his element in ES, he was still the best of the three lecturers. Very opinionated, and can be harsh on those who speak in class and have nothing to say (this is probably what led to the negative comments earlier.)

probably a really smart guy, but a boring lecturer and an absolutely horrible writer. a word of advice: don't write anything on a test he hasn't said (in the exact same words) in his lectures, any original or different interpretation of the material is wrong...no, don't argue, you're wrong.

Larry Simon is the worst professor at Bowdoin. He really is a horrible lecturer, loves to hear his own voice, rambles, and is whiney and annoying. Its fun to see DeWitt get pissed at him. Dont take a class with him unless you have to.

by far the worst and most annoying professor ive had. He constantly interrupts Dharni and Dewitt, his lectures are boring, and he doesnt seem to know what hes talking about. On the basis of my ES 101 experience with Simon, i will a) never take another ES course and b) never take a philosphy course..

Professor Simon is great! Hes a really nice, funny guy, and not a particularly hard grader. More than that, he literally does not believe in deadlines (at least not in ES101). In his view, if his deadlines (excepting the semester's end) interfere with you learning, they should be scrapped!

Would someone please tell this guy to stop talking so much? I know he's a philosopher, but he rambles on way too much. When a simple, short answer would do, he goes on these long diatribes!!!

I really like Prof. Simon even though a lot of people seem not to. His class is really interesting and he makes some really dense stuff east to understand. He tends to hemorage red ink all over your papers but he always gives you a chance to rewrite.

I gave him -2's on the course evaluation, and would've done the same here if I could have. Only take his classes if you are a stand-up comic and intend to do impressions of him at his expense.
