He can always tell if the class energy is off and actually cares enough to ask what's going on at the time (midterm season etc). He's also amazing at never letting you feel like your question is a dumb one. Only thing is because he's so passionate about what he's teaching he can go a bit overboard on the readings/forget this isn't your only class!

Second course I've had with De Looze and he really is one of my favourite profs. He'll make an effort to learn your name and he is one of the best lecturers I've ever had. You can tell he is really knowledgeable and passionate about literature, art, history, etc., which makes lectures very interesting and engaging.

Laurence is an amazing and captivating professor. He's very passionate about what he does, which makes for amazing eye-opening lectures. Sometimes the reading can get overwhelming, but the evaluations are more than fair.

Professor de Looze is absolutely incredible. In Comparative Literature and Culture 1020, it was so obvious that he's very passionate about the material he's teaching, which makes it easy for his students to be passionate as well. His lectures are very entertaining and it's impossible to zone out.

He gives captivating lectures and is very passionate about literature and culture. The content is very interesting, however there is a lot of reading and keeping up is essential to doing well. Taking good notes and studying hard is a must. This was overall a very enjoyable class.

Laurence is an absolutely great person, and he gives good marks but his comments could be harsh. He always seemed to disagree with everything I wrote about and it was extremely discouraging at times. He was a really hard person to please and I feel like I spent the whole course just trying to be a good enough writer for him. Good prof though.

De Looze is such an incredible lecturer and is incredibly intelligent. He is very passionate in his lectures and covers a lot of content in each class, but that is because he knows so much about so many things and he just wants to share his knowledge with us. He is very personable and approachable and I always leave the class in awe and inspired!

Laurence is very enthusiastic and entertaining. He manages to blend literature and linguistics in a way that keeps things interesting. Unfortunately he has a habit of going off on tangents; his test questions are fiendishly difficult but he is a fair marker.

SO incredibly enthusiastic, makes all the material amazing. Extremely knowledgeable and definitely approachable. A genuinely interesting guy. He packed an insane amount of info into every lecture, it was well-explained and fascinating. A passionate prof who truly loves his subject; endearingly scatterbrained sometimes. :)

Professor de Looze is AMAZING, period. Sometimes he forgets what he's saying, but I honestly think he's racking a brain filled to the brim with sheer KNOWLEDGE. He. KNOWS. EVERYTHING. He is a very interesting professor who is terribly enthusiastic about his subject. That being said, he has ridiculously high expectations and academically was not a sound choice for me. I might audit one of his classes but I doubt I will take one again in which I am being graded.

Absolutely amazing guy. I was astonished by how much he knows, and seeing him at the cafe having full conversations in fluent Italian is equally as impressive. Very engaging...I loved this class and prior to taking it, had no interest. Also, he's sexy.

Not only the reason I decided on a minor in Comp Lit, there are few professors that can have me excited about waking up early to attend a difficult class that I would never have had any interest in if I hadn't noticed he was teaching it. He has a way of drawing you into a topic and making you want to learn more.
