Overall, his class is manageable. He does go fast in lectures so I did have to go to office hours several times but he is super nice and not intimidating at all. Do the homework and study guides because tests are based on them. There's also a pretty big curve which I definitely appreciated.

Goes very fast but gives a lot of examples and is a very kind, cute old man. Do the homework and practice tests he posts and you will do well. Exams are very fair but quite difficult because they are long so you have to know the material to finish in time.

Grade is 3 midterms and a final. Marx's class was the first class that made me feel like I was in college. It was incredibly demanding but with the effort put in an A is possible. Very kind in OH. Insanely fast paced lecturing with countless examples. Lots of additional chapters put in. Hard class but he provides everything you need to succeed.

Professor Marx has been one of my favorite professors at Davis. I just finished my first year and I took him for MAT12 Fall quarter. He explains things very well and always asks if everyone understands before moving onto the next concept. He always has a smile on his face, even when I had him at 8AM. He is a very cheerful man and a great professor.

Great professor. You don't have to attend lectures if you can teach urself. The test is just what the practice is. The test structure, format, and questions are almost identical. pro. Marx is friendly and caring. General speaking, the class is easy. And if you have any chance, plz take him.

People rate Marx highly because hes nice; that said, his class is probably one of the more difficult 17B sections because of the difficulty of both his exams and the amount of optional material he jams in (about 1/3rd of discussion sections are spent on teaching new lecture material). Average for tests were 40-50s w/ a weird curve. Dont reccomend

Dr. Marx is a wonderful teacher and person! He's very kind, and really makes an effort to teach thoroughly, in a way that makes you feel like you're really learning. Clear lectures, and lots of OH in which he's very helpful. His tests weren't easy, but totally doable and a fair evaluation of what you learned. His class can be an easy B, earned A.

This was an extremely hard class, given the material is already hard to learn with a good professor, let alone Marx. He does try to teach but the second you walk in he already did 10 problems, he talks so fast that we don't get the time to understand the process, and his tests are too long.

The actual test is very similar to the practice. The only thing you need to do is review the notes and do homework. Approximate 70-80% of test questions come from the examples which he mentioned in the classroom.

Only grades on 3 midterms and 1 final. The practice midterms are very similar to the actual tests. Definitely adjust to your learning style, he can go pretty quickly over topics and if you have a question have it ready when he asks for questions. It is hard to not like him because he is like a very loveable grandpa.

Marx is a really nice guy, but as someone who learns better with examples and different interpretations of what concepts mean, this class was extremely hard. Lots of definitions straight from the textbook without much effort on his part to make it more understandable or applicable. Very computational class, I struggled with concepts throughout.

Dr Marx is a great guy and prof. Gives clear lectures, answers questions well, and very helpful in OH. Lectures on all the material doesn't skip much and his tests are VERY challenging but completely fair. 3 100 point midterms, 200 point final fairly generous curve. Work to get a B, Work really!! hard if you want an A

Easy. Never attend lectures and discussions. Never learn anything 21b. Just do the hw and all questions he publish. An A is the award.

Simply put, you must truly understand the material to do well in this class. His exams are lengthy and challenging, as he loves tricky problems. Luckily, his lectures are PACKED with helpful examples. Also, he provides review material that can definitely prepare you. Unfortunately (at least for me), his curves are more generous to those who fail...

He is a great explainer. However, the pace that he goes at in class is faster than other professors. Do the homework, go for the lectures, and go for the discussions and you will be fine (you should get an A). But, if you decide to start slacking off and only go for the lectures you will probably pass with a C. (assuming you did Calc BC earlier)

Professor Marx explained material very well, and although he went a bit fast during lectures, I could understand everything. He also provides many practice problems, including homework, discussion sheets, and practice exams. His tests are fair; they're very similar to the practice tests he posts, and there's always a lot of extra credit available.

Marx subbed for my MAT25 (advanced calc) professor. From one lecture,he made a good impression. He spoke clearly and wrote neatly with detail in his notation. He covered a lot of material in a little amount of time and did so elegantly. I plan to look for other upper div math courses that he might teach.

Worst math prof. ever. He doesn't set up canvas(I believe he doesn't know how). Impossible to see at the back, even in the front rows cuz he uses white chalk to write. ( no powerpoint) Exams are extremely hard, impossible to finish. Talks super fast and confusing.

Marx is an awkward person but don't hold that against him LOL. His lectures are so-so but the tests are heavily based on them so study the notes and do practice problems. He doesn't use canvas and has optional HW.
