Comment:
Dr. Mead is my favorite teacher at usm. For physics 201 and 202 you couldn't ask for a better professor. He is beyond knowledgeable of the material and he grades very fairly. He is interesting to listen to and you can really tell he loves physics.

He's highly intelligent and a good teacher. His tests are hard, but he states specifically on his syllabus that working the problems assigned in the textbook will help immensely. He is pretty funny and gives some cool demonstrations.

This wasn't an easy class, but Dr. Mead explains the concepts very clearly. Always engaging and extraordinarily intelligent in his field. Tests can be fairly difficult and he doesn't drop or curve test grades so be prepared. If you can confidently work all the problems on the syllabus, though, you should do fine.

Made the class kinda fun. Gave physical demonstrations of the concepts and excellent w/ stick drawings. Very challenging course. He teaches specific methods and how to recognize when to use them. That is what you're graded on, not memorization or improvising. The final answer only counts one point, even if the question is worth 10 or more overall.

He explains the material and problems in a simple step-by-step manner, and grades you on following those steps. He is very visual and doesn't mind throwing an object to illustrate a point. The class is fun if you are there to _learn_ physics rather than just to meet a requirement. I've noticed some quizes are problems straight from the chapter.

He's a pretty good teacher, but you MUST WORK THINGS HIS WAY. So even if you get the right answer, you may not get any points for it. This can be irritating as hell. He also isn't fond of helping you outside of class (though I've heard he's better with this in the upper levels).

Dr. Mead was one of the most interesting professors I've ever had. He had a quirky sense of humor, but he was still a good teacher. I was WEAK in calculus, which made his class very challenging for me. But I still remember concepts I learned in his class. I always liked the 'stick people' he drew on his tests.

If you've had physics before you may have problems adjusting to his methods. He gives more points a wrong answer his way than for a right answer a different way...so learn his methods.

Needs to be more objective about grading. The material was decent and his teaching style mediocre. He did not like answering questions outside of class. Oh... and where was the calculus... in our supposed calculus based physics class. Shows favoritism to girls in short skirts.

First, he isn't very good at being clear; he fumbles words a lot and is confusing. Also, he didn't actually use any cal in our "calculus-based" course. Other than that, I just thought he was odd. Just show all your steps and follow his rules.

He has a really good grasp on the material and is approachable. He's not keen on answering questions that with a little reading you can answer yourself. Getting the right answer doesn't mean that you did the problem right so don't expect points copying.

Dr. Mead makes a mediocre explanation the material, but here are the real problems: 1. Getting the right answer doesn't mean you get the points. 2. Sometimes he doesn't like answering questions too much. 3. He isn't very helpful outside of class.
