Comment:
Really nice guy, but never uses blackboard or his email. It's super hard to know how you're doing in his class because you never have any indication of where you're at. Also, the guidelines for exams, assignments and papers are not explained well.

Was extremely inaccessible outside of class, doesn't respond to emails, the course was extremely unorganized, lectures don't make sense, and is no help when preparing for exams.

Sych has lots of experience, but basically stinks at teaching. He goes off-topic all the time and gives no information about what to expect on exams, gives no information about projects/papers. He does not use Blackboard, never answers emails, and doesn't even keep a running total of grades. Avoid at all costs!!

He is a super likeable guy- I want him to be my grandpa. The classwork was manageable and he seemed to be really relateable and cool.

Dr. Sych was a really likable guy. His lectures are very wordy and he takes pauses often so they can be hard to follow. Overall, a nice guy and the class is not too difficult if you put in the work.

Many people dislike Sych for his drawn-out, wordy lectures, however, he's a super nice guy and really cares about what he's teaching. There is a lot of out of class work, but if you do it, a relatively easy A or B.

Sych is a good guy but SO boring. His lectures are a snooze-fest and impossible to pay attention to. In the WI class you take a lot of notes for hw but they are easy points, just kind of tedious. Other than that the exams are pretty hard, but he gives you almost all the questions that will be on it in intervals of 3 per class period so go to class.

Tough class, one of the toughest I've taken in a long time. Although the material isn't especially difficult, it pays to study. Graded reading notes add easy points

He is a good guy, very nice. But not such a good proff, DO ALL YOUR WORK and you can make it out alive, he talks alot and his lectures are boring and off topic, he doesn't give alot of clarity, but he tries to help best he can. No study guides for the test and no clear rubric for final paper. Get to know him and ask questions.

Tough professor. Sych's class will definitely challenge you, but that shouldn't discourage you from taking him. He knows his stuff, and it really shows if you meet with him during his hours. If you ask good questions you're guaranteed to learn a lot.

Dr. Sych, known to many as 'The One They Call Lar', is a legend in the halls of Anspach. A truly brilliant Ph.D., he cares deeply about his students. Take the time to meet him in his office hours. Work hard and it will be reflected in your grade.

This prof is a very smart guy and is well versed in his area of expertise. The major flaw was that he allowed the course to veer into a political debate and not try to direct it back into a public administration course. This, of course, was a fault of some of the students as well.

worst.teacher.ever. he doesn't grade the weekly assignments (just stamps his name on the paper) but bases your entire grade on the portfolio that you're not sure you did right and a term paper based on (probably) flawed CMU survey results. if you get him, study and work on assignments w/ people.. that's the only thing that saved my portfolio grade!

Worst Professor I have ever had!! I am a really good student and he was an unbelievable pain. He decided to use a new teaching technique with us so every day we had a paper due...no exams just papers. Huge waste of money and time. I hated and continue to hate him.

Seems like a nice man but not a very good teacher. Lectures are boring, tests are hard, and there's no assignments except a large paper at the end. Don't count on extra creit either...there isn't any!
