You sort of have to be into developmental psychology for this course. Material based on relevant real world problems and current research in the field of developmental psychology. No textbook for the course, but again, highly suggested that you have prior background knowledge in this field before entering the course.

altho i wasnt interested in developmental psyc, hes class was fun. he covered interesting materials and showed us some studies which are much more interesting than just memorizing theories and vocabs. i dont like the TA tho. hes useless and very disrespectful to students. the topic of the essay was narrow and the format was very restriced.

The first day of class, I thought WOW this is going to be a great course. To be honest the content is great, but that is all. The TA is not only useless and disrespectful but also arrogant. He is an extremely harsh marker. I had several people edit my paper and I ended up with a 36% in the course. Sadistic TA and stuck up professor. That is all

This was a very interesting subject for me, and I enjoyed all of the lecture topics. HOWEVER, this certainly did not translate into the marks I am used to. The essay marking is very hard and the TA makes haughty remarks on your paper. The exams are very hard; you must memorize ALL lecture slides in detail. Marking memorization, not understanding.!!

Did well in course was pleased but he seemed cold at office hours, made me feel unintelligent. TA was unreasonable marker and not helpful. Even seeking help before due date TA suggestions were useless. TA unwilling to discuss comments in essay. TA wrote his own opinion in my essay: he does not agree with my opinion on essay topic. It is my essay

I highly recommend this course. It's not easy, but Larry is extremely helpful, and the material is very engaging and relevant. This is a third year course so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect proper grammar and good writing; however, the exams and term paper are toughly graded. You will get out what you put into this course.

passionate and interesting prof. well prepared for class, and he tried hard to make sure students understand. Lecture slides were brief points and missing detail, so attendance is mandatory. Paper was graded fairly in my case, however, consulting the TA before writing the paper is highly recommended. Overall, great course, helpful TA, nice prof.

Avoid this class unless you are extremely good at writing essays. The marking scheme of the essay was very unfair, and the T.A. is also very rude and arrogant. Midterm is ok, but the final is hard. But the lectures are very interesting

He is so passionate about his work and it shows through his teaching! Very engaging, interesting prof. There is no textbook and the notes are sparse so you HAVE to attend lecture to do well. My term papers was marked reasonably so I think it's a matter of the T.A. Material was OK. It had its moments but there were also dry parts..

Oh yes, I agree to the 2 ppl below me. I've always been getting great grades w/ the papers & essays I've written, yet I got a really low grade on this paper! I thought the grammar deduction was really unfair... The midterm is hard, too, especially the written. If you want to encourage students to improve, you don't hit them with a super bad grade!

Totally agree to the comment below mine! It IS possible to get LESS than 0% on the paper! This course is a GPA slaughter. I have always been getting B+ and A- on all the paper I have done throughout all my years as an undergrad. BUT, this paper ruined my grad school admission GPA!! Thanks to the **** TA and prof! The midterm was tricky too!

Interesting lecture. I attended every class. Paper definitely unreasonably marked by the TA. Unclear marking scheme. Marks deduction are taken off aside from actual value obtained, so it's possible to get less than 0, so very unfair. Feedbacks on paper doesn't tell us how to improve, leaving students helpless. Too much weight on grammar.

no textbook, just course package notes. Must attend class because no textbook. Exams are tricky, and quite specific, but do-able. Mt consists of MC and written. Course evaluation = mt, paper, seminar, final. TA is a hard marker.

This class was pretty good. At 1st it was scary b/c you only have a package of notes w/o very many words on it meaing that you HAVE TO GO TO CLASS. No joke. He's not the funnest person ever, but he makes things clear and understandable. If you study, you should do good. Like me. I used to get C-B's but i studied hard and got and A in his class. :)

I am not sure if the previous comments are a joke, but he is by far the worst prof i have had at UBC. so incredibley unhelpful, pompous, horrible TAs. He marks everything as though to give you the least possible marks, like he was no care as to whether you do well. Extremely unapproachable. I do NOT reccomend this course to anyone
