I graduated four years ago from economics, and I can still remember this prof as one of my worst profs in college. Dogmatic, stern, and plays favorites. Biased grading schemes, boring lectures, dictator type teaching style. Avoid at all costs. I also took health economics with sodermizer and again the same dogmatic approach to lectures. Avoid

Good at teaching, cannot mark properly, confusing exam questions, and he's not afraid to give you 0 on a 40% question. Does not follow the appropriate grading methods, thus skewing averages, etc. Take the other section, their average is 20% higher than ours!

This is the worst professor at Mcgill. If you are late you must sit on the floor and you can never go to the washroom. If you want to be emotionally demolished then take his class. I am a very good economics student so don't think I am saying this out of spite. Avoid at all cost. I would rather take an extra year of uni, rather than his class.

Avoid at all costs. I am an above average econ major who withdrew after a wasted semester fearing bad grade. Lectures bombard you w/info; I am a fast typist and couldn't get everything down. Exams expect verbatim regurgitation. Extremely unhelpful outside class. I chose him over Handa thinking a stickler was better than a bad lecturer. I was wrong.

He teaches slowly and clearly, sure... His class is still pretty tough (harshest grader ever?) and my BIGGEST problem with him is that he is very unhelpful to students who are not doing well (like he takes it personally that I'm not getting an A in his class). In short, soooo unhelpful. Avoid him if possible.

I have never been so frustrated or fed up with anything in my life as i have been with this class. A YEAR of writing for 80 minutes nonstop, the man is insane, just keeeeeeps going. The material is so complicated and confusing, notation always changing, and he's heartless. I read the other comments and took the class anyways, DONT DO IT, seriously.

The WORST Prof. I've ever had in my 4 years at McGill. He'd literally stop the lecture and say something awefully bitter to someone who is 5 mins late to class. No mercy on marking of the research paper. Just a bitter man stuck in his own mind set. he's only nice to the "good" students.

His solution to any problem in the economy is to simply have the govt print more $$. He hasn't read an econ textbook or paper in 20 years and is stuck in the 70's. He still thinks Keynes is the best thing since sliced bread. He's a fu**in looney.

teaches at a snails pace, explaining the simplest economic concepts forever. exams are about regurgitating his left wing understanding of the maket/economics. Don't think independantly, cause you'll be wrong. Be as specific as possible on exams.

Soderstrom is a old school teacher. Although he is very hard and demanding, the stuff he teaches is very relevant and helpful. His course is not for the slack, you CAN't skip class!! But if you work hard you will love ECON.
