Comment:
Maximon may have meant well, but he was pretty hard to follow most of the time, even for someone who has a basic knowledge of astronomy. He's too old to be teaching into classes... Don't buy the book, get answers for hw online, all the questions on the final were taken directly from the previous exams.

One of the worst teachers imaginable. He doesn't care how you do, and his lectures are literally him babbling about nothing. Then the tests are hard and over specific. He never answered my e-mails and his final e-mail said if you're confused about the final to ask a friend. Totally inaccessible and teaches horribly. Lab's a joke at least.

He tries to die his hair but never does a good job. His syllabus assigns 10% of the grade to homework. He gave a few five minute assignments at the beginning of the year and has since stopped. I'm leaning towards thinking that he's getting tired of teaching- he is truly awful. No one comes to lecture, so he creates random penalties.

his lectures were really confusing and some of the exam questions were out of left field and i ended up getting C's or D's on my exams, which screwed up my gpa. and plus he's not even accessible to students. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES!

This class screwed up my GPA and I went to class everyday and met with him. He answers your questions by trying to confuse you more and when you get the tests it's something completely different. Study by book- fail the test. Study by notes- fail the test. He does not curve at all and you work a whole lot for a low grade in an introductory course.

The comments from earlier seem to be describing a completely different teacher. The whole class is practically failing and he refuses to curve. He will not show you your old tests to see what you did wrong. Take Butterworth.

The exams in this class were very random and I found them to be very difficult. We didn't use the textbook that much. The Professor is a nice guy but is kind of spacey and rambles on a lot. Lon-Capa is awful. I spent so much time on it every week and it barely helped my grade. It's not really necessary to go to class every day.

Nice guy,but his tests seem to come out of nowhere.Going to class can be pointless as he is a slow lecturer and repeats himself a lot.The book is barely helpful because it covers too much but not in enough detail. However, better than all the other professor in department.

I didn't feel like I learned much. You repeat the same lecture over and over and much of it isn't on the exam, but neither is the reading. He seems pretty spacey but he's a nice guy.

Really easy. So cute to watch him figure things out while writing on the board. Nice guy who doesn't really interact much with students but loves astronomy and wants them to too. Just print out study guides, go to at least one class a week and do loncapa.

Very nice professor. If you have questions and attend his office hours, he provides more clarity than in class. However, if you have questions in class, ASK THEM. He loves being asked questions and I think he feels that no one cares about the subject. That's why he drones on and is perceived as boring. Tests are pretty easy, no memorization.

Three exams, one make up exam. Take the makeup, it repeats from the previous exams. Study only quizzes and powerpoints, he doesnt focus very much on the book. Go to class every so often, always go right before an exam and youll do well.

He is your typical crazy science teacher...he even has the mad scientist hair. Other than appearance he knows his stuff and he explains the subject matter well. As long as you go to class, tests are pretty easy and studying is minimal. He is very fair even easy as far as grading. Doesn't take attendance. The only annoying part are the labs.

Very easy, no math is needed, just go to the two classes before an exam and you'll pass with flying colors. Easiest out of all the Astronomy professors. The loncapa and practice quiz tests are a nice cushion too.

he likes the topic, i'll give him that. he tends to drone on about nothing and make jokes that only the front row can hear. he doesnt make you learn numbers and formulas for the exams. its all about the concept. review the quizzes and his last class before the exam to prepare for the exams and you'll be fine. very....interesting man i'd say.

Lectures are quite boring and he doesn't explain anything clearly. He seems genuinely interested in the material, but I can't say anything else that is positive about this class.

Very easy class, all concept based. Tests are easy, multiple choice. Max can be funny sometimes, but you only have to go to class once in a while. Go to the class right before the test and he'll lay it all out for you.

awesome class. next to no math involved, easy tests (not cumulative), straightforward grader. very little outside work is necessary. he makes all the concepts easy to understand by using a bunch of little analogies to everyday things, that's the best part. he's also kind of a cook, so his dry little jokes can make the class more fun. TAKE IT!!!! ^^
