He's good. Gives us a look at Popular Culture from the 1930's to the present, and introduces you to some people, places, and things you already know and some you may not. Tests are fairly easy as he gives you the questions beforehand and he does give an 8-page essay. Otherwise, an easy class.

Definitely a class worth taking... However, it seems rather remedial for my knowledge on pop culture. Otherwise to blue book exams and a paper, plus a few short easy surprise quizzes. A very interesting professor to listen to and learn from.

I took this class because I had taken Europe 1914-45 and I thought it would be to see the other take on the era. I took the class expecting quite a good class and all I got were directionless lectures and few actual book facts. He used visuals well, but the whole class was all anecdotes and a waste of my time. Plus he judges you on your attendance.

You definitley need to go to class in order to pass. There are no text books so you just have your notes. The paper is pretty boring (and so are the books we have to read) but Ashby is funny and nice. He shows clips, slides, and overheads that makes the material more interesting.

this is an awesome teacher... his books are okay, but his teaching is awesome.... we get to watch parts of movies and take minimal notes... all you really need to do is read the books he assigns to the class and you should beable to pass the class

What a great class! You won't want to miss it! It's practically watching show's like I love the eighties except it spans through the past century. He is an exceptional speaker and has a way of captivating the class. Professor Ashby is excellent!
