Really enjoyed this class. There's a lot of reading and group discussions but I learned quite a bit from them. She was often slow to grade assignments which got annoying but I still would recommend her. She was also my advisor, and gave great advice for planning out my future class schedule.

Dr. Russell has a passion for learning and thinking and teaching that shines through her faults particularly disorganized nature (she had a tendency to be forgetful in conveying important information). Being very type A this was difficult to adjust to, though as long as the miscommunication is directly addressed she proved to be incredibly helpful.

Nice, helpful, and brilliant. Definitely a hard grader, but it's always fair. You will learn in her class.

Dr. Russell is a good teacher and very knowledgeable. I believe she genuinely cares about her students, but she does play favorites. Because there is alot of outside writing class time sometimes feels a little like time wasted. However, Dr. Russell does a good job of preparing her students to write on an academic level. I am glad she was my prof.

She is very intelligent, but sometimes that intelligence causes confusion for her students. She is always willing to talk with students over papers/grades, which is very helpful. She is a very tough grader, but if you want to grow as a writer, I highly recommend her.

Dr. Russell is an extremely intelligent and very passionate professor. She really tries to connect with her students. If you are actually interested in literature take classes with her, it?s not easy but it is awesome and inspiring, especially her Queer Fictions class.

She isn't a bad professor, I just didn't feel like she fit my learning style. Sometimes assignments were a little vague, but the material was interesting.

This is a hard professor to rate. She is very intellegent and intellectual but sometimes TOO intellegent. She creates very vauge assignments and puts people into groups to discuss very unimportant ideas. She is nice and friendly to students but at the same time frustrating and confusing. I also would not be the first to sign up for a class.

I've taken Dr. Russell for several upper level literature courses and loved every last one. She sometimes takes on too many classes/tasks at the same time leaving her a little scatterbrained but if you don't mind that and are interested in any aspect of gender, sexuality, or postcolonial literary studies she is required, also she picks great texts.

I mean, she's fair, but she makes you do alot of unnecessary group work. She is willing to sit down with you and discuss grades, which is a good thing. Overall, alright, but I wouldn't be the first to sign up for her classes again.

Strange? She's not strange, she's intellectual. Not too many profs like that at UNCA, you should definitely take advantage of this one. Plus, she's a great teacher, and very helpful in challenging thinking in and outside of class. She's one of my favorite professors. I've had her for four classes, and she taught me to love Judith Butler. Who else could ever do that??? No one! Only Dr. Russell. And she loves film, so ask her about that.

Expects way TOO much for a 100-level class! She needs to definitely teach upper-level classes if she is going to expect as much work and prior knowledge of history that she intends for her students to have! She's got potential, but needs to be easier.

I think she'd do much better in higher level courses where the students much more intellectually active/stimulating. Doesn't seem to know what to do with non-LIT kinds of pple in this partic. course...lots of group work. Easy, but disorganized.
