He is not a bad professor. But he can be tough especially his tests. Do well in his tests and do your worksheets and you can pass.

Terrible chem professor. Makes chemistry more difficult than it should be. His manual is useless as it contains incomprehensible diagrams and texts.

Yea Mayer isn't a great teacher. His class is not hard at all if you put some effort in. Study the book study the practice test, because I guarantee your not going to learn anything from him. I just read the book and showed up for exams and days lecture activity were due.

Really nice guy. However, as a teacher, you do not understand most of what he teaches. You are better off just studying his sample tests since that's all that really matters for his class. My teacher was my lab instructor explaining everything. If you don't need to take 1B, take Mayer and study his tests. If you do need 1B, look elsewhere.

He will be a good professor to take if you already understand the materials because his lectures are very hard to understand.

How to succeed in Mayer's class: study practice exams religiously. Textbook and lecture guide readings are useless. Go to his Q&A sessions before exams and workshops and u'll be fine, but you'll be screwed for lab exams since the types of questions are very different. Lecture activities = confusing! Buy the guide for practice exams and nothing else

This prof has a very bad method of teaching. For example, for mole to mole ratios he uses "macroscale mass based conversion factors". His tests are nothing like the notes. Make sure you do his practice tests else you won't know what he is asking

I don't understand why people have such a hard time in this class. His practice tests are literally word for word the same as his actual test. I spent hundreds of hours reading the book to understand the material. His power points make absolutely no sense. I was one of 7 people out of close to 200 to get an A.

Lecture was very different having this person around. He's very fast in his teaching and may be a little confusing. It is really important to go to the Q/A sessions and his office hours. He is very knowledgeable, but presents the info in the funny way. Lecture Activity are confusing so collaborate on those. The sample exams SAVE YOUR GRADE.

The sample exams will save your grade in this class. Activity exercises can be confusing. 1 on 1 teaching he is the best, everything made sense. If you have time go to his Q and A before tests, may improve what you get by atleast 15%

Very interesting professor. Likes to show comics in class related to chemistry. A very boring lecturer, tends to go on and on about chemistry. Does show some interest in the topic. Plus side, Chem midterms are just like the sample midterms. Other than that, I would steer clear. Very boring.

Unique teaching style that takes some getting used to, but worth it when you accept it. Extremely detailed and organized, rewards attendance, offers lots of extra credit, and provides sample exams that are very similar to actual exams. Very math intensive approach, but extremely helpful if you really want to understand the material.

Lectures are mind-numbingly boring and incomprehensible. But he is helpful if u go ask him questions in office hours or exam-pre-test-sessions. Study the pretests. His notes and assigned book readings are useless.

CHEM 001B was my pre requisite I had to take it even though I hated it. He gave a me a different perpective of what Chemistry really is. If you really want to learn Chem take him. You will get an easy A if you do the practice exams.

Mayer's lectures are difficult to understand, but his practice tests are almost identical to his actual tests which really helps. You get extra credit if you attend lectures which will make a huge difference for your grade! Read the book & do the homework and you'll be fine.

He has got to be by far the hardest teacher ever. He made his lectures seem as though you were a 5th year chem student rather than just a beginner. His class has highly discouraged me from continuing with my major since it requires me to obtain a minor in chem.
