My most favorite, memorable professor at UNCC. His tests are essays, and easy if you have done the reading. His lectures are interesting, and he is hilarious! He also gives great advice to his students. "Spend money on experiences, not on objects." He urges us to travel, and to embrace, and learn from other cultures, and their cultural history.

He seemed very interested in the topic/subject matter, his specialty was Latin America. Lot of grade inflation, I think it is greatly encouraged at UNCC. I still remember the look on his face when he asked the class about the Gadsen Purchase and not one of the History majors, all graduating at the end of the semester, knew what that was.

Lyman Johnson is an institution at UNCC. You won't get a better prof than Dr. Johnson at any University, so you better realize what a top-notch professor he is. If you go to UNCC and don't take a class with him, you're making a mistake.

My experience has been ok. It's a reading intensive class, but if you read and focus on the lecture outline he gives, you'll do fine. He can get off topic at times and fails to be specific, so it's difficult to tell what's important. This is a problem when it comes to his frequent quizzes where you define terms. Tests are two essays and terms.

This was a colonial latin america class and I will admit he isn't always the most thrilling professor, but he really knows his stuff and is widely respected in the academic community. His passion is evident and the work isn't hard as long as you read the books and pay attention in class. I really appreciate the faith he shows in his students.

I honestly did not care for him. He would constantly go off topic, which made participating in class harder (which was required in one of his classes). Not very flexible at all when it comes to papers. He was also very picky about things. Overall, he wasn't interesting and definitely someone I would not take ever again.

Great professor! Very knowledgeable in Latin American history. Easy going, friendly, and funny. He makes the material interesting. You will read A LOT but as long as you do the reading and take notes you'll be fine. I'd take another class with him no doubt!

Great professor! Have taken him twice. Very entertaining and funny and knows everything about the subject.Very easy going, and friendly. He is absolutely not hard. Two small quizzes, and Three papers: 2 five page and one 20 page. This is a senior history course if you can't write a paper after 4 years in college then you have problems not him.

GREAT history teacher. The problem for some students was that they got behind in the reading. I enjoyed the class a LOT.

He really I think is in latin american studies so he can go soak up some rays in Mexico, not b/c he is all concerned about them...he don't care, and he knows it, it shows in his teaching, very profoundly, and I think he needs to be audited by the school. He sucks and he needs to just give it a break.

I cannot believe they let this invalid teach...He is pathetic!!! HE claims he is all genuwine about his passion in Latin America but I don't believe him, he's a liar and does'nt know how to properly pronounce Spanish names and how long has been teaching? HE has some issues I think deep down and, frankly I would never take another class from him

The book that he uses is very comprehensive as it was written by him. He tends to be long-winded, however, and can go off topic when trying to apply a modern idea to one in colonial Latin America. Know your people/persons/places in that class for ID's and know the general pattern of events for writing essays. Is a slightly hard grader.
