i clearly and distinctly perceive that lynne rudder baker has absolutely no teaching ability. she lacks any knowledge of explanatory skills or relation to the students. she picks favorites. but her turtlenecks turn me on.

An absolutely great proffessor. Approchable, knowledgable, kind and considerate. She's there because she's interested in the subject and wants to talk about philosophy. Don't try to take as a gen ed, you will hate it. If you have any genuine interest in the philosophical development of America then this is an excellent course.

I am taking American Phil, fall 06. I really like Dr. Baker and I imagine the negative comments are from kids who were not interested in getting the most out of her class. She is extremely approachable and very knowledgeble about her field. If you like philosophy she's someone at UMASS to get to know!

Dr Baker is an expert in Philosophy of Mind and highly respected and famous in her field... the idiots who have rated her low probably never took the time to get to know her/put in the effort she demands for her classes.. she suffers no fools but if you show inititiative she is very nice.. she was a great help to me
