Hard but fair marker. Lectures are pretty good with his German humour, but sometimes the proof is too tedious. PS: Do not expect bell curve to save you ass in his class.

Comment:

Cryptography is a really cool class. The material is a favorite among many students. The class was typical Kolster; a bit tougher than his other classes. The format was the same - single midterm, many assignments, and final. Teaches you to do things 'smart, not dumb'. Gives bonus questions on tests and exams - so marks over 100% are possible!

Kolster doesn't insult your intelligence. If you study the material WELL, you will not only get a good grade but also learn the material very well. His lectures are peppered with jokes which lighten up what can be somewhat dry material sometimes. He believes in a single midterm, and instead gives assignments which are decently easy to do.

Best professor at McMaster! Very fair, very consistent. I began this class with no knowledge of the subject matter, and over the course of the semester I grew to not only udnerstand the material, but now I enjoy Mathematics in general. Congratulations to Dr. Kolster for making a better student out of me.

I had this horrific instructor many years ago for Number theory and oh boy was he horrible. He spoke with a thick german accent and his handwriting was impossible to decipher. He is extremely old but still takes his courses so seriously it's unbelievable. At this age people should stop worrying so much about students and marking hard on exams.

His hand writing is the worst among all professors of the math department. My 2 year old daughter can write better then Manfred Kolster. He told us the exam will be so easy; it was not easy. It was pretty brutal. I was expecting an A+ in this course but walked out with an B+ because the final was pretty tough. I think Raza marked brutal on it.

Very Unfair prof. He has very little knowledge of what he teaches. He makes so much mistakes on the board and then laughs about it and makes dumb jokes. It is OK for him to make mistakes on the board, but when u make mistakes on his exams, he will nail u hard, and give u very litle part marks. What a Hypocrite. It's unbelievable. Very terrible prof
