Class is not boring here because he does not read off slides, he actually teaches. Grade is made up of 3 exams, but you will HAVE TO STUDY for them. Not extremely difficult, but challenging exams. If you go to class and do readings, you will be fine. He is also funny and entertaining.

Politics can be such a bore but Gertz is so wise that I actually enjoy coming in and learning. He's probably the funniest prof I've ever had. With that being said, it's also the hardest class I've taken (except I'm just a sophomore so it could be the lack of higher level classes). Tests are heavily lecture based & lots of reading!!!

Dr. Gertz is a decent professor, I always thought he was funny during lectures. For courts he gives a few exams, but you need to know the course content to pass. The TAs are also knowledgeable and will help you. For me, the class itself was really hard, but some kids do fine.

Dr. Gertz is an amazing professor and very into his job. YES, he DOES talk about Israel, but he relates it to the topics of diversity. Everybody saying he makes you work for the grade... It's FSU, what do you expect?? The TA's grade you papers and literally tell you a thousand times to go to office hours... SO GO. If you read the books, it's an A

Gives assigned reading to 2 books you must read them. You'll have 1 page reaction papers on the book and movies. People dislike him because he's very opinionated and challenges people beliefs. I have dark humor and loved him. Has helpful but tough grading TAs. Final is 3 questions, choose two and its essay based.

Before I started classes this summer everyone warned me that Gertz was very HARD but, I felt indifferent I felt that his class was quite MANAGEABLE. My best advice is TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE RESOURCES ! If the TA's have office hours, GO ! I got an A on all 3 of my reaction papers because I spent a lot of time in office hours!

I really like Dr. Gertz. I took his class during the summer. We had two books to read and a movie to watch. He gave 3 papers and a test. The papers were short. One page, double space, that's roughly about 350 words per paper. They are reflection papers and the topics are general. His TAs are amazing. Class discussion were very interesting.

Had this class over the summer. Gertz is an uptight professor who does a lot of lectures on Iseral instead of what we should actually be talking about. Gives us 2 books to read and a movie to watch. If you don't read you wont do well on the papers. Has good TAs who are willing to help and provide feedback on all assignments.

Dr. Gertz is fantastic and really challenges you to think differently. The readings are a bit intense, but that is to be expected in a top-ranked graduate program. Lectures can get sidetracked, but the discussions really help the material sink in. Giving him the coveted chili pepper.

Dr. Gertz is an extremely arrogant professor. He is always bragging about how much money he has, and how successful his children and wife are. He is not clear in his expectations, whatsoever and is border line insulting. Research methods is a valuable course for anyone studying the social sciences; however, Dr. Gertz shouldn't be the one to teach.

MUST attend class. He takes participation grades. There are 2 novels you MUST buy, they are pretty short, but boring. He lets his TAs' do everything for him and he only gives 2 lectures himself(a good thing since he only talks about Israel)the others are given by his TAs who are kind of uptight and tough graders. Just work hard and listen to the TA

This post is regarding the study abroad program Dr. Gertz is in charge of at Florida State. As one of the head professors at FSU, he is in charge of a study abroad program within Israel. Throughout the experience you tour the entire country and experience a culture like nothing you have before. This trip was truly life changing and you should go!

His Courts class was definitely not easy. Prior to taking his class I did not have a huge interest in the legal system. However, Dr. Gertz is very interesting to listen to, and I enjoyed the class. Be prepared to study hard.

He was an amazing professor. Very much into his job, and obsessed with Israel. Comes off as pretty rude, but honestly if you dont ask stupid questions then he wont be an ass. awesome class, fairly easy, but the TA's are pretty strict when it comes to the papers, try not to talk about the book too much because they will say its a book report( C-)

He is a very nice professor but be ready to read more than you ever have. When teaching, he gets off topic and talks very fast. Its hard to understand his lectures and his test are very difficult. There are no study guides or powerpoints and he grades very hard for papers and test. There is NO EXTRA CREDIT

While the title says methods, this really is not a methods class. This is more a philosophy of methods that isn't all that applicable to conducting actual research. His goal, as he states throughout the course, is to to teach reading tables... So in reality this class should be retitled to "CCJ How to read a table correctly" Pretty useless class

Best professor I have had at Florida State. He challenges you to think critically. His lectures are never boring and makes coming to class interesting. The only class I have taken were I do not look at the clock wishing it was over.
