Comment:

He is a very smart guy but you get sooo much reading to do. There are impossible amounts of reading to do weekly if you are also taking other real classes. There are also around 10 papers to write throughout the semester that range up to 10 pages in length. There are much easier history classes to take if you are looking to fill your GE requirement

Comment:

There are a total of 8 papers, in which all of them are EXTREMELY tedious to write. The given materials for the papers are several several pages long/from the 1800's so nearly impossible to read. Writing 6-8 pages on very specific themes is pretty difficult/ a total waste of time compared to taking a course that you can get an easy A in.

He expects a lot for a month long online class that is just a gen ed. There were so many papers with two of them being quite lengthy. It is not worth the work and I am planning on avoiding his classes in the future.

OK this is the only review you'll need for our friend Dr. Marc. Bottom line - take his class. I've taken two of his now and I have gotten an A in both. Go to lecture. Get the books but don't read them (only need to skim for quotes 2 papers not hard he is an easy grader. Take some notes during class and translate that on 2 written tests. EASY A

Super boring class, especially at 9 AM. Books are a must as you need them for difficult papers. He is a super nice guy and loves his own jokes, but your probably wont. Attendance is also key for the class. Two 5-8 page papers that are very painful.

He is not clear at all. The dreadful videos are so hard to follow. He seems as if he is trying to rush through it. He also kinda seems like he thinks you already know what he's talking about. His essay/term paper prompts are extremely vague. He will usually give you one topic, and you must write 5-8 pages on a single topic. Awful. I was miserable.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. It is a terrible Gen Ed to take. Not worth the time at all, papers and readings will have you swamped. He's a good professor, but gives way too much work and grades harder than any english or lit class I have taken

This is a terrible Gen Ed class to take. Two long papers (5-8 Pages) at the end that are not worth the Gen Ed requirement. All of the other assignments (2-4 Page Papers) are graded extremely difficult. If you do end up emailing him with a question, he responds quickly but that is the only positive I have. Would not recommend to anyone.

Took this class as an online GE for my major. HUGE MISTAKE. Yes, he does know the material, but 2 5-8 page papers and numerous 2-4 page papers make this class not a good choice when it comes to GEs.

He is a good teacher. There is a midterm, final and two 5-7 page papers. You definetley need to get the books. Don't always need to read but books are essential for papers and exams. Exams are essay forms.

Online class taken as a GE. There were no exams at all, instead there were 8 papers (two 6-8 pg papers). He is a difficult grader and the class is treated like a senior level English course. If you don't like writing DO NOT take this course. However, if you like learning about the beginning of football, baseball, and boxing you may like the course.

Awful class to take at 8am. The whole class is just him rambling, and not including class in discussion. He knows the material, but doesn't teach very well. Powerpoint slides do not make sense when studying for exam, so TRY to take notes based off of his rambling lectures. Decent grader, but is really stiff on guidelines. Papers are tough. 5-7pgs

Considering how boring the material is, he did a great job with getting the info across. Go to lecture!! He uses common metaphors throughout everything and refers back to them so you can understand everything as a whole by the end of the class. Read the textbook; he notices when you do and gives you better grades because of it. Nice guy.

Comment:

History of Sports was not what I thought it was going to be. However, you won't find a professor more knowledgeable in his field that Dr. Horger. His lectures consisted of him mostly talking. A large amount of reading was required for the class. Two papers and two exams made up the whole grade. He is a very fair grader and provides good study guide

Comment:

Dr. Horger is a nice guy and always tries to keep lectures interesting. His lecture notes aren't all that helpful, however if you actually listen to him he explains things very well and I found it useful. Everything (midterm, paper, final) is graded by the TA though. Overall I did enjoy this class.
