Comment:

Lam skips steps often during problems, which can be jarring, but overall her lectures are pretty helpful and informative. Homework isn't collected or even checked so it left little motivation to do it. Tests are a lot harder than quizzes and homework, but she grades them pretty easy. Little information is given in terms of what is expected for labs

Best materials science teacher at RIT. Take the class with her and not with someone else.

Comment:

System dynamics was a class that doesn't teach usable material. What we learn is like a prereq for classes such as controls. Nonetheless I enjoyed the methodical methods of it all. Lam is a good teacher, she does care but is sometimes a bit passive-aggressive. They have some weird pet peeves on how you must do problems which I disagree with.

Her teaching style is effective without taking up a lot of your time. Tests are most important so study up for those. I've had her for a few classes and she has always been great.

This honors class has many guest lecturers who are very interesting. However the professors in charge, Lam is the main professor, did not have a very good course plan. There are a couple group projects which aren't horrible but everything they assign is extremely unclear.

Comment:

Really easy class and enjoyable too. She puts all the material on mycourses so you don't have to take notes but just follow along with the slides. Homework isn't required but definitely do it and you'll ace the test. Solutions to homework are posted too so you can check your answers. Knows what she's talking about and makes the material interesting

Only homework. Kinda long but super easy if she manages to explain literally anything during class. Doesn't care about anything. Can't answer simple ?'s. Examples are worthless. Project is easy. Easy A but you won't learn anything at all. DON'T BUY THE BOOK! You can't sell it back and it's worthless.

Comment:

Teaches the CAD portion for 104. Very straight forward with material. Doesnt make it interesting and often times I would fall asleep during the 45 minutes I was there. Knows CAD well, but sometimes had to ask the TA why something wasnt working. Average overall. Rubrics for weekly HW are posted with clear cut instructions

She rushes the lecture, can be hard to follow, if you miss a step she is done by the time you get help from the TA. Even when she is doing nothing she won't help you she will just call a TA over. Grading sucks. Being a CAD class, you can draw something any number of ways. If you don't draw with the method they want you lose points(same end product)

Lam knows a LOT about Materials Science. Her lectures seem very long and cover a TON of material that you wont need to know. The content on the tests are 90% from the homework, which I don't think she makes very clear. Do the homework (even though it is optional) and you will do well on the tests. Course was fairly well organized but dull sometimes

She opens the class with any questions, which is helpful. She goes over the EXACT problems that appear on the quizzes. She uses powerpoints, videos, graphs and images to illustrate the topic. Some topics are boring, but you have to learn it at some point. Attendance is mandatory; she uses an iClicker. She has office hours and is extremely helpful.

She teaches everything with powerpoints in class. She does example problems, but they can be difficult to follow. Some lectures are extremely interesting, but these are infrequent. The class is relatively easy, but if you don't understand a problem you need to use the book to figure it out because there aren't any worked out problems in the notes.

Very confusing and lectures are rushed. She basically reads facts all class. She rarely uses examples and when she does they are hard to follow. The textbook is where you can try to actually learn the material. If you can get somebody else, do it.

She's not that bad. Explains the material effectively and demonstrates a good understanding of the software despite it being her first time using it. She can be ambivalent at times about what she expects, but when she does help you, she will do so to the fullest of her ability. Definitely not a bad teacher

By far the easiest grader I have ever seen. Lectures are interesting and informative. Lets you know exactly what will be on exams which are basically copies of the quizzes. Would highly recommend.

The lectures were almost intolerable to sit through. Too much information is covered with very little structure or explanation. She teaches as if it's all common sense and there's no depth to the material. Don't expect to learn much on the subject, if anything. The tests focus on problems with little relevance to the lectures.

Great professor. If your grade is borderline in the end she takes everything into consideration and may raise the grade. He lectures are just basic and sometimes confusing, however she is very helpful during office hours.
