Comment:
I nearly failed the first semester of the year long introduction course for my major because of her "teaching" style. My grade was saved by the fact that she switched out with another professor in second semester. She is very unclear, not accessible, and does not accept "to-ing and froing". Would NOT recommend.

Marcia is the epitome of bad teachers. She is very unclear and does very little to ensure students understand. She will say one thing and then contradict herself. Evidence that she's a bad prof is in the fact we had her for half the course and Connell for the second half. Most students were failing, only to be saved by Connell. Avoid at all costs.

Contradicts herself 99% of the time and sometimes doesn't admit to her mistakes. Insists on using technology to help her teach, but doesn't know basic computer skills. Must always be present for lectures because she's very unclear & it's hard to get good notes. Very unclear on grading scheme; writing too muchlittle can get points off.

Easy enough to pass but hard as hell to do well with. Contradicts the textbook VERY often; always go by what she says in class. Poor accessibility (refuses to post slides or allow pictures in class as they are her "intellectual property"). Marking scheme for short answer questions is a mystery; just write as much as you can about the topic.

The most unhelpful and scatter brained prof ever. Has no idea how to use a computer and yet insists on using PowerPoint presentations during lectures. Has no clue how to mark an essay. Uses grammar from the 40's that is not relevant and docks marks for not using it in an essay. Exams are take homes..sounds easy? They aren't. AVOID!!!!

She will not read this review as she doesn't know how to use a comp., she never responds to email, and has the audacity of distributing photocopies of handwritten handouts which NO ONE can read. Totally unfair marker, makes constant grammatical errors, hard to follow. No use of moodle or helpful tools whatsoever.

She was an okay teacher. She knows what she's teaching but it's hard not to fall asleep. She is a very hard marker though. For the definitions, write as much as u possibly can about the word or else you won't get it right.

Nooot good at all. Her lectures are extremely unclear -- she contradicts herself and the textbook all the time. She marks tests inconsistently and unfairly and doesn't seem to know what she's doing.

I love the English language and I always do well in English courses. I studied religiously and attended every lecture and she failed to adequately explain anything. When I asked her for help she was rude and unapproachable. Take linguistics from someone else if you want to learn something.

Her class has been my worst uni experience. She's highly disorganized, unapproachable & rude, regards comments & questions as personal insults & disrespect 4 her authority, esp. when she can't answer them, which isn't smth unusual. Don't clarify her contradictory statements with her if u wanna keep ur mark up! Made us buy a text we never used once.

Marcia Macauley is a perfect example of a professor who has experience in the field but cannot convert this experience into teaching. She is unclear, disorganized, hypocritical, biased, and unethical. Do not be fooled by those who have brown-nosed their way to doing well in her class. Marcia is a terrible teacher and a disservice to the University.

If you don't like coming to class, taking notes, paying attention, studying, thinking and understanding, linguistics is not for you. If you do every one of these things without exception, you'll do swell in her class and forget the haters. University requires a little effort sometimes.
