Mary is the most AMAZING professor you will ever have! She will challenge you, make you work, and bust your butt, and you will love her for it! She explains every assignment well and is always 100% willing to help you. You will leave her class a new, stronger person and you will never stop appreciating her! If you're really into writing and English then her class is good for you. If you're taking english just for gen ed classes she will probably be a little too extreme for you.Unless you're an english major, don't bother buying the books. Mary is one of those life-changing teachers that every writing student needs. She is a story-teller, friend, critic, and mentor to all of us at Longwood. She will teach you the craft and love of writing and if you want it bad enough, she will get you where you want to be.

Entering ECU I had no idea what to expect. I remember be nervous and excited at the same time. As my feeling were about to erupt Mary walked into the class. Her way of teaching was unlike anyone I had ever learned under. I knew from that day on that college rocked.

Mary is the WORST english teacher I have ever had. I made an A in her class, but no thanks to her. She gives zero instructional help, so if you are not a decent writer coming into the class do not take her because she will teach you nothing. She has favs.
