Grades essays very hard, and rewrites never improve a full letter grade (and rewrites and original grade are averaged together). Class was extremely boring and she didn't make enough effort to push the conversation forward, leading to long, awkward silences. Some books were enjoyable, others were not great reads.

Prof. Thickstun is tough, but she's got a really quirky sense of humor that makes the class fun. However, if you're not interested in the subject of the course, you'll hate it. For interested students, she's a joy to have. Approachable, extremely willing to help, and an all around nice person.

She really knows her stuff and she is very enthusiastic. When getting feedback on draft essays, she will point out postives and negatives as expected, but when you fix them for the final draft, she will tear the paper to shreads, bringing up new negatives not mentioned earlier. She's a great professor but a very VERY tough grader.
