I have taken two classes with her - I loved one of them and I pretty much disliked the other one. she would be a better overall prof if she offered more freedom in selection of essay topics! the narrow range of choices was a problem for me - we were forced to write on Oroonoko and Gulliver's Travels

Comment:
She is a good instructor, but she expects a high standard of academic conduct from students. Unacceptable student behavior includes chatting to friends when someone is commenting on the text, racially motivated coughing in a disruptive and blatant manner, eating in class (especially meat, she's a vegetarian) and not shutting off cel phone.

Comment:
I agree with ALL of the other negative comments about her. She, at times, seems more like an enemy than a teacher. She is unwilling to help anybody who doesn't already know the answer and she will not listen to anyones comments if they do not have the primary text in front of them. She is condescending, rude, and I think she also might be crazy

Comment:
Attempts to succeed as a university prof, and yet fails. Perhaps she is miserable by nature, but she really does resort to high-school tactics in the structuring of her lectures. She asks questions everyone knows the answer to, but ppl don't want to respond to her, so she has to call on people.

Prof. Zytaruk is a very intelligent person, but she has a lot to learn about the art of teaching. While I've been able to stay on her good side, I've seen her make extremely rude comments to other students... humiliating even. She also seems to have some gaps in her knowledge, especially prosody.

Comment:
Zytaruk's aim in the course is not to offer an intelligent learning experience, but to make herself out to be a 'tough' prof and to waste class time with never-ending discussions. The mid-term was also revealing, as it consisted of questions that tested class attendance, and not actual knowledge.

altho her approach might be a bit odd (calling on students at random), and a bit boring at times, she's a decent prof...a little awk to approach, but she knows her stuff, and is willing to help.

They say misery loves company, maybe that's why she makes every effort to ensure your experience with her is an unpleasant one. I tried to be nice, but was met with rudeness and arrogance. Her classroom is not an environment conducive to learning.

This prof is an extremely unpleasant person. Her lectures are adequate (if boring) but she tries to humiliate students in class and during office hours. Her poor time management meant that we didn't get to a lot of the material on the syllabus.

I don't like how she calls pple on at random. This approach belongs in public school. I do like that she encourages discussion but hate it when the same pple drone on all the time.I don't think she is purposefully mean, but her mannerism comes out wrongly

Belongs in an elementary school - as a the draconian headmaster. Insultingly juvenile in her treatment of students and equally unimpressive in her treatment of the subject matter. A waste of tuition money.

Rude. Snippy. Enjoys humiliating students. Speaks to you like you're an idiot. Her course was excruciating. In future, I would drop and take summer school rather than endure her teaching.

V. difficult marker. Missed major works b/c of poor time management. Lectures improved (existed) in 2nd semester-however, not enough to fix the damage already done. Not open to different approaches to texts.

Her marking is too low, and is very intimidating. But I learned a lot from this course. Material culture is a cool stance that rarely is taught.
