He is a great professor, and he really does care about his students. If you show that you actually care about his class, he will absolutely give you an A. There are weekly assignments about critiquing other people's writing, but if you just do those, and participate and show that you care about being in the class, you will get an A.

Really great professor. This class really helped me expand my writing, and helped me venture into different topics of my writing. Tom is a great professor, just do the weekly assigments, participate, and you're bound to get an A. He's super understanding, and a super cool dude.

Some people had said that this class was hard but it really isn't. I'm telling you, it REALLY ISN'T. It's tedious, that's all. You just have to be invested in your work and the works of others, show up, and participate. Honestly, if the problem is that you can't be bothered to show up, why are you in college? This class felt like an easy A to me.

This is one of the few classes at St. John's that actually helps you improve your writing and creative development. This class is not going to be an easy A, you need to show up and more importantly participate. Participation is one of the most important aspects of your grade in addition to writing. This is a fun class where you can grow.

Expect to read and write a lot for this course and although it is not difficult it does pile up if you procrastinate. He gives you one absence per semester and gets super annoyed at latenesses so make sure you get there on time. The class itself was very interactive and a fun experience that really stands apart from other English courses.

Tom is sa great laid back guy. He doesn't talk much, but it is a workshop FOR the writers! He's more of a supervisor leading you in the right direction. The class is not hard and it's actually fun. You don't have to be great at writing to enjoy this class.

This is the only review you need to read: This is not an easy class, it is meant to challenge you. If you want to take easy classes, why are you in college? Tom not only made the students in the class better writers, he also helped many students overcome their fear of speaking in front of others. Tom is the best professor I had in my four years.

If you're going to take this class because it looks, "easy," don't waste your, his, or your peers time. I came into this class because I wanted feedback and I wanted to improve as a writer. Tom's very helpful and the class, itself, is a lot of fun! That is, if you're dedicated to it.

It is a creative writing class so if you don't want to write 3 major pieces to present to class well then don't take the class. All you do is write some pieces, read other people's pieces, write a one page review and then discuss in class. It is a good class to take if you are interested in writing stories or poetry especially in the future.

inspiring, supportive, and not at all concerned with all of the ridiculous SJU/Academic BS that infects so many classes (and institutions...just look at what it's done to the writing center!) if you want to be an adult, and grow as a writer and an individual, then take this class.

i'm sure that prof feels very proud of himself having all of his students write badreviews of him on this site but the truth is that all jokes have a bit of truth behind them and the rumors are pretty true. learned nothing :: he's rude :: wastes class time and makes you go to meetings outside of class :: congrats prof

This class is ridiculously frustrating. There are no grades and no way of telling where you stand. The comments Tom gives in class are completely cryptic, so while I think I'm doing well, I have absolutely no idea. I can?t tell at all if I?ve even learned anything, so if you?re someone who likes something to measure by, skip this class.

What the hell I took this class because I thought it would be an easy A. Who knew I would have to write all the time. On top of the back breaking amount of writing we had to do he wanted us to write about other people's writing. WTF man someone needs to tell this man that creative writing is a joke class and should be an easy A!!!!

I thought creative writing would be so easy! I mean, what could be hard about writing fiction? Just make up some stupid story or some crap. And poetry? Just scribble some garbage about your emotions or something. But Tom made it really hard. Who knew we had to proofread our own work? Plus,we had to write thoughtful responses to the work of others.

He sucks! He doesn't care about your work at all! Even if you think he does just cuz he asks you to have a one-on-one meeting with him, it's all a front!I mean I love to write but he just killed that for me! I'm actually considering to change my major just cuz of him!I think at this point in the semester, I'm prolly getting a C(that's if I'm lucky)

By semesters end I can promise that you will have printed out an entire former rain forest worth of trees...The class meets once a week for three hours at a time, and all we do is listen to Professor Philipose compl

His class is just beyond difficult. We meet once a week, and yet he has us hand in five creative pieces each class. Not only that but if he doesn't like the title of your piece he automatically gives it an F... Not like it matters because he gives everyones' pieces Ds anyways. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Also don't say basement to him...warning you.

Tom's great, pretty laid back. The students do most of the talkin in the class...being that it's a workshop and you have to critique other people's stories. Only issue is the lame ass writing handed in by other students. If you have no patience for garbage then I suggest you rethink taking this class...or you just may rip your hair out.

You will genuinely learn to improve your writing in this class. This guy actually takes the time to give u very constructive criticism and he cares to improve your writing. If u want to learn something and improve your writing take him, he's harsh but honest. I have learned more in this class than any other class in my college career.

if you want honest, constructive feedback from a person who is honest, constructive, and interested, then take this class. he takes the time to write out a page of comments, which is great if you actually want to improve your writing. to all the haters--not all "fun" classes have to be easy, and you probably are all****ty writers and are bitter
