Fabulous pianist, no doubt about that. His conducting skills leave a lot to be desired, however. I left vocal jazz after one semester in it because I neither liked his conducting no the music he picked out. He also tends to play favorites with some of the older ensemble members, and his jokes can be inappropriate at times.

"That sounded great guys!" Umm...hello, do you know a thing about vocal jazz??? My lowest level high school choir was more advanced than VJ. I was very disappointed this semester, and expected much more from a college-level choir and it's director.

Nice guy, however this does not make up for his directing abilities. VJ is seriously lacking- where are the dynamics? diction? and many other things i don't have room to write. there are basic essentials to jazz that he doesn't implement (like there is NO vibrato used in ensemble singing!) we could sound so much better. it's disappointing.

I actually think mark is a really great guy. He is usually a pretty decent conductor. He lets ensembles know when to come in and he is very enthusiastic about anything he is involved in. True, some of the comments he makes are a bit...shall we say, inappropriate. But overall, Mark is extremely talented and is a good conductor.

Mark *is* a very talented pianist, however he cannot conduct to save his life. He favors certain ensembles over others and puts very little effort into his groups. He is easy, but that is not nessisarily a good thing when it comes to ensemble work.
