I got a disappointing C in the course, but that's my fault; I just didn't study hard enough. I would say that Dr. Hessler is a very good teacher. He's very nice and is eager to help his students in any way he can. If you're very interested in American History, I would definitely recommend taking one of his classes.

Comment:

Prof Hessler took an extremely dry material and made it come to life. The history of historians is a sublet that could easily end up in the weeds but not with Hessler. Easygoing, smart, informed and entertaining. I cant say enough of how good this guy and his methods are. Involves everyone and makes everyone comfortable being involved.

I also took Civil War and Vietnam... he teaches with passion and makes the information easy to understand. You don't need to be a history major to enjoy his class. He's definitely one of the best history professor's I've ever had, funny too... take him!

one of the greatest professors ive had. You will learn from him, if you take the class seriously. i took him for his 422 and his vietnam online class - takes the time to make sure you understand why you got the grade you got. Always a great person to talk too and ask for advice.

He was a good teacher. Very helpful. I dont think he was a tough grader as long as you got all your points across. he stated its hard to get a top grade from him but i managed to get the top grade more than once. As long as you watch the DVD's dont need the book.

For HIS 422 Hessler is the way to go over Barry. The work load isn't terrible at all, just ALOT of reading from Tosh and Barker, two books required in both classes. He helps break down alot of the information which is pretty dense and difficult to understand as is. He's very approachable and is a great teacher. Only negative is class was at 8am

I took his Civil war class online this semester and it consisted of ten papers 1 1/2-2 pages each single spaced.You must read and watch the videos. I learned more online then in my other classes and was proud of my work after I did it.He asks good questions I would recommend him. I am taking him again this summer 4 Vietnam.
